Saturday morning musings

I'm knackered, groggy and, blissfully, I'm drinking strong coffee. And the spouse just took the kids to the park.

~ A Lesson in Breaking [Snape/Harry, Snape/Draco, NC-17, warnings] by fleshdress
fleshdress is one of the few people who can get me to read Snape/Harry, which is one of my no-no pairings, but I thought this was brilliant. Full of ouchy emotions ( Read more... )

Are you kidding? I'm still on the edge of my chair for updates from mistful She's got a post HBP WIP and a Draco's a Ravenclaw WIP. Both are fantastic. Furiosity and imadra_blue are working on their sequel to their BBBII collaboration. It's going to be a trilogy. Plus the two you've already mentioned.

I forgot about mistful's, but I just haven't felt the excitement that I used to have about reading WIPs. And I don't really see much talk about them on my flist either. YMMV, of course:)

At the moment, Shadow of his Wings is the only one I will drop everything to read. The rest are: I'll get to them when I have time, or I'll wait until they're complete.

Oh. In that case, yeah, I'm kind of feeling that too. I don't know if JKR has taught me patience, but I don't seemed to get as worked up about wanting an update. I think if they were on a more regular updating schedule it would be easier to get excited... as it is, we can go weeks/months sometimes. Still, it sort of makes my day when they post and I've got time to read it right then. ;)

Maybe I should have clarified that and said event WIPs. There certainly are a lot still being posted on harrydraco and other het comms of varying degrees of quality.

Shadow of His Wings is excellent in every way and it's only a few chapters away from completion, so this is a good time to get into it. I did find the first few chapters a little dry, but once the action and the UST between H/D take off, it's hard not get obsessive about this fic. The writing and aesthetics are at a level far and above most of the fanfic out there. On lj you can find updates and cookies for SoHW on mirasfics and her other one-shots, also highly recced.

~ Underwater Light by Maya (mistful) This fic meanders a bit too much in my opinion and could use some back editing, but it comes together nicely in the last few chapters.

~ Eclipse The writing is uneven in the beginning, and also suffers from meandering chapters, but a great, believable plot and nice build-up between Harry and Draco.

~ Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by novembersnowThis, otoh, is tightly written with great characterizations, a compelling mystery and a nice sub-plot between Ginny and Tonks. It really shows what a mature writer can do with H/D. And by mature, I don't mean ( ... )

I wonder if you know, does the character death warning listed for Shadow of His Wings refer to Harry or Draco? Because that and Percy (I'm kidding - kinda) is what was bouncing me away from this fic every time I see it recced. M.

It says on her website that you can email her and she'll tell you, if you're truly interested. Just don't publicize it. And don't tell me, please:)

I will tell you someone dies in the first chapter, but I don't think that's what the warning refers to.

Unfinished WIP? Somehow, these words ring a bell... *shifty eyes* At the rate mine has been going until now, you'd get a chapter for each of your birthdays. I've promised myself to stay away from challenges and whatnot until I've made some progress with it.

I'm so looking forward to your Harry/Pansy! :-)
