I love baking, we all know that. I also love Pinterest. It comes as no surprise then, that I am often finding recipes on Pinterest that I wast to try out and see what they are like. With the upcoming move, I have some time off that I am spending with family and so for the first time in 6 months I have access to a full kitchen that I can use as I ( Read more... )

Well, I can tell you that cake doughnuts exist and are delicious--my favorite kind, in fact--so perhaps it was a cake doughnut recipe. (If you were expecting it to be less thick, that's a yeast doughnut.) Color could have to do with baking them a little too long or using different brands of the ingredients. As for the flavor, maybe one of your spices wasn't fresh enough? Hard telling.

But don't give up! Look up the recipe name and compare different authors' ingredients, see what's the same and what variations are out there. For example, I always make my cookies with Crisco shortening instead of butter; Tammy once tried the same recipe but used butter instead and thought they turned out really gross.

I've had and made cake doughnuts, and yes, that is what the recipe was for. The batter is usually more dense than this was still not right. Everything that went in was bought fresh, so again, I still have no idea why it was different.

I love baking, but I'm always leery about making dough that you have to manipulate a lot. Like bread, doughnuts, and noodles from scratch. I usually get the consistency of the dough wrong and then it becomes a miss. :\

Hope you can get it on the next try! ~<3<3<3<3<3~

I like breads, but I do avoid the yeast doughnuts. They are in no way my style. It's always rough when you have to get the dough just perfect. But...practice makes perfect? I've learned that I just don't have the patience for some things.
