Mycroft is not happy today. This is mostly because he found out last night that his oldest son had done something as pig-headed as start a fight with another boy over something entirely pointless ( Read more... )

Guppy does come in, sooner or later.

He spots Mycroft and wanders over.

Guppy nods. "Well if he does well, we might be able to convert to just a splint after a few weeks. Depends how bad the pain is. He's having to take co-codamol at the moment."

"That is a shame," says Mycroft. "And this was all over a laptop?"

He shakes his head, and can't help but be disappointed in the way his son handled the matter.

"Fry finds social rules difficult." Guppy says. "And reading people. There's only so much guidance we can give him because sometimes a situation just requires judgement.

On this occasion, he judged that people were in potential danger, and acted in what he thought was a logical manner."

"My son is eleven years old," Mycroft explains. "I don't think he's quite that skilled with computers yet."

Guppy shrugs.

"Yeah, but Fry meets a lot of... interesting kids. Some of the kids he knows around that age probably could write computer viruses."

Mycroft laughs, somewhat dishonestly.

"A troubling thought for all of us, I'm sure."

Guppy nods.

"Perhaps we should have some sort of gathering? So we can all get to know each other better."

Mycroft seems to consider this. "I'm sure something of the sort could be arranged. Perhaps once everyone's recovered from the recent unpleasantness. I can't promise that my brother would want to be present, though."

Or that it would be a good idea if he were.

"We could have some sort of party upstairs." Guppy says. "I've got a room I keep up there."

He likes to have at least a rough idea of who Fry's hanging around with.

"Maybe dinner then games for the kids?"

He suspects Sherlock wouldn't come, but he'll invite him anyway because his mun thinks it would be funny.

So does Mycroft's mun.

Mycroft considers this. "Games. Yes, that could be interesting, indeed."

Somehow, he doesn't think his brood would go for such a thing, but he supposes they all could use a lesson in socialisation.

"Good. I think we should try and build some bridges here." Guppy says. "And both Fry and Coral said they got along with Quentin."

"Quentin always has been the more social of the three of them," Mycroft says.

He's fairly certain that if Quentin had damaged himself or anybody, he'd have heard about it by now.

"Fry interacts with people if he feels like it, and needs a certain amount of quiet or alone time. Coral tends to try and get on with everyone. Brooke tends to be the most 'popular' at school, but sometimes she can be a little harsh."

"'Popularity' is something I'm afraid I can't comment on," Mycroft says. "The children are responsible for their own education, and I'm afraid they don't get out much."

This is mostly for everyone else's safety and sanity.

"Oh, you home school them? How's that going?" Guppy asks.

"We thought about it when we were having trouble with Fry in nursery, but in the end we decided not to."
