Life is good.

Well, life is ... complicated. But good! He's met with the new bossman, Harding, who's slightly less intimidating than DeWitt in some indefinable way. And who seems to have a certain appreciation for genius. And long story short, friends and neighbors, Topher Brink is about to become the new head of R&D at the Los Angeles Dollhouse.

Topher's happy almost to the point of giddy. Beyond kid-in-a-candy-store; this is all the way to kid-in-Wonka's-Chocolate-Factory.

They're finally gonna let him do stuff.

"So you're ... doing okay, then? All alone?"

He sounds dubious. And kind of worried.

(This is for more than one reason. He could blow this pretty spectacularly if he isn't careful, and he has never been good at the sales pitch.)

"No one, um, looking out for you?"

She didn't mean it would be stupid to tell him if she was doing okay alone. She meant it would be stupid to tell him if there were someone looking out for her. Which means ... which probably means that there is.

It's too late to keep the oh off his face, so he says it out loud. "Oh. But -- what if I promised I wouldn't?"

"The Dollhouse doesn't help people!" she shoots back. "I used to think we did, but it isn't what I thought."
