Charles Xavier - XMFC continuity - that bar

Jul 18, 2011 15:58

Finding the bar at the end of the universe instead of his study is more often than not something that he's glad for, because it means that he has been pulled from the bonds of conventional time and plopped squarely someplace where he can do whatever he'd like for however long he'd like without anyone back home paying the consequences even a little ( Read more... )

Fry sees the man with the wheelchair out of the corner of his eye, gets up, and moves three chairs out of his most likely path.

Fry takes Charles' drink off the waitrat and passes it up, to save him bending down, upsetting his centre of gravity in a manner that may not be easy to compensate for with his legs. He avoids touching hands when he passes it over, nothing personal, but from habit.

"Is it a boarding school you work at?" he asks, thinking it would be odd if Charles signs notes to his sons with his name rather than 'Dad' or similar.

"It is something of a boarding house at the moment," he admits as he takes the tea, smiling his appreciation, and nodding to cement it.

"Though it will be a school as soon as I have the paperwork cleared away and we've made some renovations as needed."

"Some of the kids at my school board." Fry says. "But mostly it's the ones who aren't coping at home."

He orders a pepsi from the waitrat, with three ice cubes and an umbrella with a little cherry on.

"It's not a children's home is it? My foster-sister Rahne used to be in one of those; she used to barricade herself in her room at night so one of the other kids wouldn't nick her stuff."

He shakes his head.

"No, not a children's home. Though I hope that we will take in any number of children who could use our facilities."

"Is it a special school?" Fry asks.

"Yes, it will be," though he isn't going to easily volunteer how.

"For 'gifted' young people."

I'm not writing 'youngsters' and the pup can't make me.

"That's cool." Fry says. "My class at school is like that. They let us do exams early if we're ready."

"Is that so? And what are your interests at school? Which classes do you like best?"

"I like maths and music, which I'm taking to A level this year, and I'm starting the rest of my GCSEs in September." Fry says. "I also have a band. Social Skills class is quite fun too."

"All of which sound very interesting. What kind of math do you enjoy the best? And do you play an instrument then, in music?"

"Algebra." Fry says. "I play guitar, piano and violin, but mostly I like to compose. I do that on the computer and add more and more parts, and because it can be heard with headphones it doesn't disturb my family if I do it at six in the morning."

Fry doesn't sleep much.

"That sounds reasonable. It's amazing that you've got a computer all of your own, or is it something you get to use sometimes?"

"I have a laptop." Fry says. "To myself. I don't let my siblings use it, but I sometimes let Rahne use if if she can't use Coral's."

Headtilt. "What year are you from?"

"In the later portion of 1962," he tells him with a spread of his hands.

"Though I would guess from the terms that you are from quite a bit after that."

"2022." Fry says. "That explains a lot."

He gets his phone out and shows him.

"This is a text message."
