Movie day / night

Jan 03, 2016 00:51

It's only taken me eighteen months but yesterday I finally hooked up my DVD player to my sound system. Still can't get the telly running through the receiver but that's a problem for another day. Tonight to celebrate I sat down with three movies to watch - firstly The Man From UNCLE which while it was beautifully styled and shot, was far too full ( Read more... )

movies, sherlock, telly

I wasn't excited about the return to Victorian England but BAM my attitude changed in a flash. The script writing is genius. Moriarty is so demonic, he's a marvel to watch. And John coming in at the falls! I was gripping the arms of my chair. My eyes were tearing up. And my hubs was scratching his head. He just doesn't GET IT! Thank goodness for fangirls.

I wasn't excited about the return to Victorian England... I wasn't, at first, but by the time that tickets were available I'd reached the point that it could have been set on the moon and I'd still have wanted to see it. Just so tired of waiting that I'd take any little bone they wanted to throw to me. And oh god, what if I hadn't gone, and then got on tumblr and seen all the pics and the meta that's already emerging - I'd have been so furious and disappointed.

Yes thank goodness for fangirls indeed. I went with my sister and her husband, and my best friend. Everyone enjoyed it but I think I was the only one actually bouncing. *g* I am so looking forward to reading everyone else's opinions of it.

I watched on public television at home but was texting some fangirl friends throughout. It was a blast!

That would have ramped up the enjoyment immensely!

Wasn't it fab! I'm rather jealous of you seeing it on a big screen too, that would have been great!

So much to think about in the ep too - I really need to watch it again with various things in mind, because I tend to just sit back and enjoy things first time round, without worrying about what fits where...

I did like it turning out to be Sherlock's mind palace we were in, which presumably means that virtually everything we saw could/have extra meaning... John leaving him because he chose Mary (but Lestrade and Mycroft staying with him!), seeing Molly as just another bloke who gets on with her job, oh, and Mycroft's eating... because he gets everything that he wants? But Sherlock doesn't mind really, because he knows that indulgence will kill you in the end? But so does Mycroft know that, and chooses it anyway, so...?

I sometimes think Moriarty is a bit too overdone... but then I guess he has to keep up with our Sherlock. *g*

There might have been some sort of behind-the-scenes Sherlock on one of the other BBC channels, but I ( ... )

It was quite an experience seeing it on the big screen. And yes, I'll have to watch it again (and again!) to pick up on all the bits that would have sailed past me first time round, and to straighten out the timelines in my head.

I wonder if Mycroft's eating is Sherlock's way of trying to make himself feel superior to his brother in one respect at least.

I think Moriarty had to be overdone in this ep, because he's Sherlock's mind palace version and we all know what a drama queen Sherlock can be *g*.

There was another behind-the-scenes after the show, where Mark and Steven were interviewing the main actors and each other; I'm sure that will end up on the dvd, along with the walk through 221B.

(edited - twice- to fix the were / where issue )

Congrats on getting your sound system to work.

I enjoyed Kingsman a lot more too, the MFU film felt too much like it was setting itself up for sequels... which it's not going to get because it didn't make any money. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Spy as we'd originally ruled it out on the basis of the terrible telly adverts for it.

I enjoyed the Sherlock special but not as much as I thought I would.

I guess I'm lucky that I didn't see any telly ads for Spy, only a trailer on your LJ which piqued my interest. And if I can get the sound working again, I'll watch it tonight.

I enjoyed the Sherlock special so much more than I thought I would, because I sincerely had no clue about the plot twist. That was such a thrill!
