They're going to the Ball, what fun. :)

Such a delightful chapter. I suspect that even Thorin will find his sojourn in the Shire to be an enjoyable one. But what about getting that tea where it needs to go...?

Researching Regency and Victorian holiday practices kept me smiling all the way through November, let me tell you. :)

As for the tea, they're snowed in and the roads east are impassable! *nods firmly* They actually will be out the door and on their way toward Erebor within hours of the main roads being cleared, I promise. :) And yes, Thorin's going to chafe a bit, but he knows there's nothing he can do, so he might was well make the most of it...

Bilbo finally in his element and the dwarves out of theirs is wayyyy too much fun to write. Writing the next chapter kept me going through a very long November, so it is self-indulgent to the max and made me all kinds of happy. *grin*

All this time, it's Bilbo who's out of his element and now it's the other way 'round. I bet Fili and Kili will get along best with the Hobbits. It'll be hard for Dwalin not to scare the Hobbits, but he should be okay as long as he doesn't take his weapons. The fauntlings will be all over him, I imagine. *rubs hands together gleefully* This is gonna be goooood!

I do so love it when someone guesses something perfectly. *grin* Because yes, once people realized he wasn't going to chop them up, the kids would think he was the best thing ever! And the teen hobbits are all quite taken with either Fili or Kili, and the older women with Balin...people aren't so sure what to make of Thorin, but that's okay, he only needs attention from one hobbit. :)

"As near as I can tell, it's the first day of Yule Week," he said, "And it's traditional to have a toast of red wine to welcome in the Yule."
I like this tradition. :)

the pop of the cork summoned Fíli and Kíli from the kitchen as if by magic
:LOL

"Is this your room?" Fíli hollered from that direction. "It's nice and big. We'll just drop Uncle Thorin's things off there, he can sleep on the floor."
Awesome idea!. :)

What had he been thinking? The Shire was no place for dwarves, and having them as guests would only harm Bilbo's standing in this insular, cozy world. They should leave as soon as possible, no matter what the condition of the roads--Bilbo wouldn't want to travel with them anymore, not now that he was home again, where it was warm and safe and comfortable--
O-ow, I’m sure Thorin was wrong about Bilbo not wanting to travel with them!

"The Yule Ball in Tookland is one of the biggest social events of the year," Bilbo said. "And we're all invited!"
YAY! :D

"Oh dear, you have no waistcoats! We must get you to the tailor-- ( ... )

Red wine with friends in an evening is the best way to feel happy and content! :D Happy happy memories...

He's been wrong about it consistently for a month or two now, but he is a stubborn, stubborn dwarf! :D

Writing Yule Week was what I did all November, and it got pretty long, but I just wanted to show all the fun times so much! It made me happy every time, so I'm REALLY looking forward to sharing...

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It is perfect. And made me unfathomably happy. And that is all I will say on the subject :D

*cheers Fili for dumping Thorin's stuff in Bilbo's room* We have shippers on deck! I found the tension with stripping just out of sight and sharing the room delightful. I hope Thorin realizes with all his mopey 'and Bilbo will be happy here and leave me now' thoughts that Mr. Baggins would fight him on that, and end up following him to the ends of the earth out of sheer stubbornness if anything else XD

While I'm cheering for characters, props to Balin for his smooth ways with Aunt Linda!

I am praying to the fandom gods that one of your more artistically inclined readers draws the dwarves all gussied up. I need Thorin in a waistcoat and ascot (and maybe also his reading glasses) and I needed it freaking yesterday XD

You just know Fili was like "We all know you're pretty much together, so whatever, man." :)

Gloominess seems to be a fundamental part of his makeup--I think there's a sort of feeling like "If I just assume he doesn't want to go, I won't be disappointed if he stays" feeling, you know?

Smooth Operator Balin cracked me up, he does know his manners when necessary!

I have a friend on DW who has actually drawn Fili and Kili in waistcoats, I'll have to go find it and share it here! :D
