The morning was cool. Winter was still in the air, little piles of snow lingering in sheltered spots. The air smelled of lake water and pine needles. )

Bruce and painkillers. yeah I saw that one coming. I loved Jim's reaction though. Jesus Christ is right.
Bruce being resigned to the nececity of cooking. :D
I have to say that I don't share the comon headcannon that Bruce is a disaster of the fire extinguisher proportion in the kitchen. I think the bats are way to fond of self-reliantness not to be able to feed themselves (I'll grant that the definition and standart of feeding onself probably vary from individual to individual)
I can't wait for the next chapter!

A "realistic" Bruce is going to have so many issues with that. I can totally see Jim being taken aback by it.

Usually I agree with you, actually! I think this version of Bruce is a little more likely to have atrophied cooking skills simply because he's been so depressed and unmotivated for so long, but I don't think he's constitutionally incapable of it (in fact, he will develop his skills in the story, lol). I definitely think Bruce didn't travel the world for years without learning how to get by with some raw ingredients, even if he isn't up to making chicken cordon bleu. :)

I know this is the movie Bruce so it has to be realistic, but I can't imagine a not-thoroughly well-read Bruce! The notion that he's never even picked up Shakespeare is weird to me - surely Alfred would be bothered as well!
I get the feeling Jim is kind of teaching Bruce how to be normal on this little getaway, poor dear.
Also, I missed this one too! Did you back-date this one and the Jack/Stephen one? I've found sometimes that confounds the subscription thingy.

I know, I did struggle with this! He and Alfred seem to actually have a much more prickly relationship until he becomes Batman--there's not much to go on, but I kind of felt he'd been avoiding Alfred a lot since he could manage to do so. I could kind of see this version of Bruce reading Cliff's Notes and being like "Good enough, I'm mostly just going to beat people up anyway." :P
I love the idea of Bruce and Jim discovering what "normal" might be together, somehow...

"You were having a nightmare."
Oh Jim.
Jim finished the mail and tapped "send." "Well, you didn't get shanghaied without warning by a dead man," he grumbled. "Some of us still have work to do."
He didn't realize until the words were out how they might sound. They hung in the air between the two men and it was impossible to call them back.
Ouch
So why had he come back to Gotham?
Good question. :)
A wry smile. "I've been reliably informed that I don't have much of a sense of humor."
Really? Oh Bruce... :D
The spring morning brightened slowly around the two men, back to back, fighting their quiet personal battles.
AWWW, that was a wonderfully written scene!
Have you got some palladium and deuterium on hand?"
:lol
"You've never read Lord of the Rings?"
WOW!
"Cooking." Bruce looked dubious. "I suppose it's necessary."Oh, poor Bruce. :D ( ... )

I didn't want to dwell on it because I don't like dissing Selina (I love her!) but I can imagine her growing exasperated with Bruce a bit...
Bruce is really not certain this whole "cooking thing" is a good idea. :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it--I'm hoping to have the last chapter up soonish! (WFGEs are taking more time!)
