It's a staggering mental image, isn't it? :) I could not resist...

Love your characterization of Gordon. Also the little details in your descriptions.
familiar and unnerving as old friends arriving without warning.

the two men, back to back, fighting their quiet personal battles.

The mood here is wonderful.

"Cooking." Bruce looked dubious. "I suppose it's necessary."
Yep, no Alfred here. lol

I kind of debated about having this be a relatively action-less story, but I don't know, I really liked the mood of the two of them mostly just grappling with their own demons together. Glad you're enjoying it! And Bruce feels the lack of Alfred keenly. :)

LOL, I'm cracking up at the idea of Batman ducking out of paying for his groceries now. :)

I'm hoping to be pretty fast on the updates here--I've been polishing this one for a while and I'm anxious to get it out there (hoping December doesn't derail me too badly!)

And I'm such a huge fan of Bruce being completely deadpan, he's just too serious for his own good sometimes. :)

Bruce in Wal-Mart? Okay, THAT should be interesting! ;)

I love the image of the two of them back-to-back on the dock, and Jim noticing the way Bruce walked and his pain. And Bruce is right. If he took enough meds to dull his pain, he'd be an addict for sure.

I loved the "Goodnight, John-Boy" scene. :)

Heh on the cooking! Again, that should be quite the scene! ;)

Bruce isn't acquainted all that much with Shakespeare? Tsk, tsk! A well-read Bat MUST be! ;)

I love the quiet atmosphere here. It feels like Maine. :)

I might have a thing for Bruce in bizarrely mundane circumstances, somehow. :)

*grin* It's actually a specific friend's camp on Little Sebago Lake, I've always loved it and when I was trying to figure out a quiet place to get them to, it came to mind! I hope they don't mind Batman crashing at their place for a while... :)

*grins*

I'm sure they won't mind! The Bat can be quite considerate in situations like these. He probably brought all sorts of survival equipment in his utility belt. ;)

He was watching the road, his face impassive and alert. A cool, collected face: a face that had looked at death without blinking and moved on past it, beyond its reach. A man who had moved on.

Oooh, I liked that description of Bruce!

Bruce raised his eyebrows and pointed at him, a "eureka" gesture. "Now, those I have been called." He shook his head and took another mouthful of coffee. "The amount I'd need to dull the pain isn't worth the risk of addiction," he said matter-of-factly. "I meditate, most mornings. It helps."

Oh, Bruce. *hugs him gently*

The spring morning brightened slowly around the two men, back to back, fighting their quiet personal battles.

Oh, the image of them sitting together like that is so lovely!

"Well," Bruce cast his eyes upward in thought. "For the last eight years, I mostly was working on cold fusion. Have you got some palladium and deuterium on hand?"

*snickers*

-hey, it's my Tolkien," he said, lifting out the hardcovers with reverence and putting them on the empty bookcase.*draws hearts around Jim ( ... )

Oooh, I liked that description of Bruce!

Post-movie Bruce is really a challenge to imagine for me. Like...so normal, but not at all at the same time...

Oh, the image of them sitting together like that is so lovely!

I could see it so clearly in my head, I'm thrilled you could too!

LOL, Tolkien somehow started to sneak into this story a lot...I think the anticipation for The Hobbit is getting to me. :) (That at least opens the same day in Japan, thank God!)

*giggles* Bruce cooking and going to Walmart, oh my! An adventure indeed. :p

Bruce is expanding his horizons dramatically, isn't he? :)
