I've posted these in worlds_finest  in the past, but for the sake of completeness I want to post them in my LJ as well, to link up to the other " Superman/Batman Scans History" pages ( Read more... )

Oh man, wasn't this book gorgeous? I just... aigh. I loved Kingdom Come so much, and Mythology was like the icing on Ross's cake of win.

Sometimes I'm so frustrated by comics, possibly because I see so much potential in the DCU that inevitably fails to materialize. But sometimes that potential comes to fruition, and we get stories and art like this. So much love for Ross, Kidd, and Mark Waid. ♥

ETA: I just had to add that though I adore the Bruce and Kal interaction herein, Robin is what made me squeal like a fanthing over this comic. I'm not even positive why, aside from the fact that I'm an unapologetic Robin fan, but for some reason I freaking loved him here. :D

I do tend to think the sprawling, messy, often-unsatisfying canon makes a sort of...mulch that we can actually get gorgeous, complete stories with good closure out of, if that makes sense. This story works in part because we already know all the characters and we already know their history from the huge mess of canon (which makes it literally fanfic, of course, lol).

And yeah, Robin is so adorable here! He's so palpably worried and trying to help...

OMG! That was SO INTENSE!
I was holding my breath reading it. And when Bruce shot Clark - I knew he would find a way to save him! I just refused to believe he would let him die! And he managed it! That was so marvelous! (I smiled and cried at the same time.):)

You are the original myth, the one we always believe.
What would we ever do without you?
Oh Bruce, I love you so much!

These scans made my day. Thank you very much for posting them!

Wasn't it? It's so impressive how much condensed action and tension there is in just eight pages. And Bruce's thoughts about Kal and about his own vows...it's just wonderful. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I want a copy of this so, so bad. The art is gorgeous, and it's so true to both of them.

*flails with gleeish glee*

Isn't it wonderful? You can get it in Ross's book Mythology, which has lots of other good short stories too!

Batman has delicate eyelashes and bat-ears on his boot-tread!

The emotional porn is so good in this one.

The bat-treads are the greatest, lol! And all of Ross's characters have surprising eyelashes, somehow...

Yes, they're so... so delicate and beautiful. I suppose we aren't used to seeing accurately drawn eyelashes on male characters. Or female characters, for that matter. It always annoys me when female characters have eyelashes that are nonexistent near the nose and then super wide and thick and bunched up towards the outside of the eyes. Eyelashes do not work that way!
