[Shortly after breakfast, Hubert pays the library a visit. There, he browses for anything he deems useful and surrounds himself with as many historical documents as he can pull out. Some background knowledge never hurt, no matter how outdated and unrelated. (His eyes also drift to another section now and then, though a shake of his head is enough ( Read more... )

[Hubert did indeed miss lunch. He'll hate himself for that later.

As Hubert comes in the door, Asbel was just preparing to leave the house, so the two cross paths.]

Oh... Hubert, you're back.

[Did they have omurice --

Nodding, he fixes his glasses.]

Yes, that took less time than anticipated.

[DANG IT.]

Regarding old history, for the most part. It seems more recent information will have to be sought from the public.

[Richard has been broody ever since the experiment ended and he got slammed with twenty years of memories he would have been quite happy to forget forever. This has resulted in him drinking copious amounts of tea and hiding in armchairs with books whenever he isn't out of the house, which he is a great deal of the time.

As luck would have it, however, he actually happens to be in the living room when Hubert enters, and he looks up to see who it is before giving a quick nod of greeting.]

[At least it was tea.

Hubert pauses when he notices Richard, then gives a slow nod of his own. Even now, it's a tad awkward. Richard's been in the house for a while, but they've yet to sit down and have an actual talk. He figures it would be best to throw in words of acknowledgement.]

. . . Your Highness.

[We do not speak of that.

That awkwardness is palpable, and Richard suspects he knows exactly where it comes from. After all, the damage he'd done wasn't limited only to Windol. And he hasn't spoken to Hubert in seven years, not really... encounter in Lhant they had notwithstanding. He's not exactly proud of what happened there.]

Sir Hubert. You missed lunch, you know.

[He lowers his head and keeps the glasses in place with a hand. It's both a way of fixing the spectacles and breaking eye contact when he's feeling a tad under pressure. Completely imagined pressure, and it's barely there; but it's there.]

Yes. . . . I was at the library.

You will find that there is little history to be found with the drafts, as they began less than two years ago.

Still, little is more than none. Even less than two years' worth of observations should bear some significance.

There have been four drafts in the past two years, each pertaining to battles in different areas of this world -- Desset City, Sirry Crags, the Malnosso's underwater research facility, and the southern farmlands. The general objective of each draft is the same: eliminate the Third Party soldiers occupying the enclosed area.

And each ended in victory, or did the results vary?
