Apocalypse now

I wasn't going to post any photos this week, but cosmiccircus's remark about having a sunset photo reprinted in a newspaper in black and white reminded me that I had some actual black-and-white sunset photos. I took them with a red filter for extra effect, and the result was apocalyptic to say the least.

Looking towards England from the end of the pier.

Well of course YOURS look nice, but then you also have that hint of color in them!

True, they wouldn't look half as good without the hint of colour I added in post-processing. Still, the effect was mostly created with the red filter. They'd have been pretty blah without the filter, I think.

the first one reminds me of a movie still :)
the filter does make them pretty dramatic.

Yes, the first one is pretty filmic, isn't it? Although I think the colours would have been different if it had been a movie still...

I love my red filter. I'm still learning how to use it, but so far I've been quite pleased with the way the pictures have turned out. Needless to say, red-filter drama doesn't suit all photos, but here it works, I think.
