Looking ahead at a breakneck pace... and stumbling over things right in front of me

I find myself peculiarly eager for the new year. I have... plans. Not big plans, and not important to anyone but myself. However, having set real goals for the past couple of years has worked very well. And I've got my goals for 2006 fairly well mapped out. Did I mention the postcards of Lorenzo il Magnifico which my mother and I couldn't find on our return from Italy in 1974, but which suddenly appeared scattered across the dining room carpet several years later?

Oh absolutely. I have found money in my sock drawer, half a letter from my Grandmother to me Dad (I never met her and NEVER saw the letter before) in a book, an old pay cheque in with Important Papers and stuff I didn't even know I owned - hey, on one or two occasions I didn't know what it WAS - in the oddest places.

In the meantime, we're still searching for a doorstop-sized dictionary, the presents I lost before Christmas, and a kid's suitcase full of photos that are here somewhere, I know they are...

It's a hard life being an absent-minded packrat...
