I re-watched episode three of Kyo Kara Maoh today and had an idea. This is the result.

Everyone's Man

by Mistr3ss Quickly

Conrad Laurence Weller, so far as everyone in the kingdom knew, never lost his temper. Didn't even have a temper, according to some who had seen him dealing with his younger brother, cool and serene in the face of the blonde's explosive nature. He was the calm brother, the polite and friendly brother, the only truly approachable son of the former Maoh.

Everyone knew that.

"God damn that foolish, idiot Wolfram, taking him out like that where he could have gotten hurt, he could have been killed. He has absolutely no training, none! Wouldn't know how to defend himself against a boy his own age, let alone a group of full-grown men, heavily armed and angry enough to fight without restraint."

A boot sailed across the room, chucked at the wall. It connected with a loud thud and flopped to the floor, looking oddly like a scolded puppy.

"And what's worse is that we all know he can't fight! We know that! That duel he had with Wolfram ... well it turned out okay, I suppose, but still. He used his sword like a baseball bat-like a toy-because he didn't know how else to use it. Now where's the sense in taking him into battle like that, huh? And then getting caught in a simple little spell that a child should be able to throw off, that's just ... gah."

His fist barely brushed the wall, body snapping painfully tight as he was restrained, saving his hand from the cool stone against which he was trying to smash it repeatedly. He shuddered, once, then pushed past the strong arms holding him back, stalking over to his wardrobe.

"I let Gwendal handle talking to them, I was too angry. Still am too angry, truth be told. I'd love to just smack the both of them. No sense whatsoever, acting like children playing make-believe. You'd never know one of them was a trained soldier-elite solder, even-and the other a king. You'd just never know, from the way they acted."

Naked, he stormed over to his bed and yanked back the covers, curling up on the mattress like an irritated tom-cat, not bothering to pull the blankets up over himself, even when he began to shiver.

"And since you're still here, listening to me rant, you might as well get into bed with me, I'm freezing."

Josak chuckled and obediently stripped out of his tunic and trousers, kicked off his sandals as he settled on the edge of the bed. He spooned his body around his Captain's and pulled the blankets up over both of them, even risking a kiss to the smaller man's shoulder before relaxing and closing his eyes.

Conrad sighed. "Sorry for the outburst, Jo'," he said, softly. "Thanks for listening."

"Not a problem, Captain."

Within minutes, all of the tension had drained from Conrad's body, his chest rising and falling in the slow rhythm of peaceful sleep. Josak grinned and held him close, listening to him snore. Come morning, they would stand and watch Yuuri take on the crown of the Maoh, and Conrad would once again be gentle and proud and sweet, the Conrad Weller everyone in the kingdom knew and loved.

Josak smiled. He liked having his own Conrad, all to himself, even if just for awhile.
