Chapter 11

Busy.

Kyuhyun was busy.

Kyuhyun had a tournament up. He won’t tell anyone he was entering though. He just wanted to see how far he could bring this. And much to his liking, the devil had stop tormenting him.

“You’ve improved, kid. You got your problem solved?”

And he was practicing at all hours. His body was no longer in pain because of vigorous activity. But he was still human and he was tired.

Sungmin was busy.

He had a recital in the national hall. He didn’t want to do it. But they discovered his song in the old music room and now, he’s stuck with playing in front of thousands of people.

“I didn’t know you could play the piano this well. Why didn’t you tell me?”

And the worse thing is; he has no confidence. Everyone might think that the good kid Sungmin would have all the confidence in the world in these situations - he was the martial art president and he was the cool kid in school - but they were wrong.

Thinking of his insecurity made him cry.

Time

Kyuhyun had time for the thing he loves. Be it, video games or those action dramas he watches. He had all the time in the world for them.

And he definitely, had time for the one he loved. So no matter how he was tired the moment coach released him from training, he was already running to the new music room only to find Sungmin already crying.

And things resumes to what it used to be once upon a time. Only things aren’t exactly the same; because time was moving.

Support

Sungmin had all the support he needed. His friends; Leeteuk, Donghae, Eunhyuk, and Kangin all had his back; His parents kept phoning the school telling them to take care of their child; And Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun gave Sungmin all the support he needed.

Sungmin really didn’t want to trouble the younger. But the boy always had the right timing like he could sense Sungmin’s tears. And it wasn’t like Sungmin hadn‘t tried stopping his tears; he just had to cry. He wasn’t that strong, really.

Sungmin’s tears would always stop the moment Kyuhyun stepped in the music room. Not because he was trying to hide it but it was because the support Kyuhyun had radiated from far.

The boy had one beautiful will to support him and it kept Sungmin practicing until Kyuhyun was sleeping soundly on the floor, using his bag as a pillow.

Then Sungmin would try not to wake him and keep playing - he had always had a weakness in waking the younger sleeping - but when it’s already late Sungmin walks close to try and wake Kyuhyun.

The weird thing is Kyuhyun always senses Sungmin’s intention and Kyuhyun wakes up. They walk back to their rooms like everything was the same like it used to be.

The only thing is; things weren’t the same.

Presence

It didn’t matter to Kyuhyun if Sungmin couldn’t make it at Kyuhyun’s first match. He never got around to telling Sungmin, anyway. Sungmin had a lot of things to worry about.

It was 3.00 p.m. when Kyuhyun was sitting in the locker room; hands locked in each other; humming a melody nervously.

Kyuhyun never really gave anything much effort but he understood the butterflies in his stomach wanted him to win. He worked so hard and there was no way he was turning around but still his heart was beating irregularly.

“5 minutes, kid.” The devil enters with eyes proud like a dad - Kyuhyun never got a name from him but they were on the same page. Kyuhyun gets to his feet and takes a deep breathe. Embrace yourself.

“Hyunnie~” a faint voice knew so well calls - Kyuhyun almost ignores it because he hears it so frequently in his head he might be just imagining it.”Why didn’t you tell me you had a match?”

Kyuhyun just smiles. Sungmin approaches him. “Do your best out there.” Sungmin reaches for Kyuhyun head; ruffling his hair lightly. This makes Kyuhyun laugh, eyes shining with happiness. Even if it’s just like this I’m Ok.

“Take care of yourself out there,” Kyuhyun nods and he turns to leave at this moment because he feels at peace. Sungmin chased away the butterflies.

“Saranghae”

Kyuhyun takes one last look at Sungmin. “I love you more,” his eyes were still shining with happiness.

The moment Kyuhyun knocked his opponent Kyuhyun glanced at the audience. Sungmin wasn’t there but Kyuhyun felt it was ok. Sungmin had many other things to worry about.

The very next day, Sungmin was already dressed formally for his recital when Leeteuk came with his million dollar smile. He gave his dongsaeng an encouraging hug. “We’ll all be at the audience.”

Sungmin smile dully. He wanted to vomit and he couldn’t breathe. Just how many people are out there? Oh dear...

“3 minutes, hyung.” The stage manager announces. Sungmin gives a polite nod. He hadn’t seen Kyuhyun yet. Did Kyuhyun forget it was today?

Sungmin was ready to show his face to the whole world when there was a call of his name. “Sungmin!”

There stood Shindong, panting heavily like he’s been running around all morning. “For you” he held out a blue corsage and a note.

The world got your back. I’ve got everything else. Good luck. ^^

Sungmin smiles as he pins the corsage close to his heart and the moment he walks out on stage he sees Kyuhyun seated in front. His smile was brighter than the spotlights and his eyes still shining with happiness.

Sungmin knew that if Kyuhyun hadn’t been there he might run away and cry. But he could feel the support Kyuhyun had for him; and that’s why the moment he finished the song, the audience made a standing ovation.

~~~~~*****~~~~~****~~~~
“Sungmin!!” more shrieks were heard from the hectic backstage where Kyuhyun stood politely nodding at all the people he knew. He hadn’t met Sungmin yet but it was ok; he could wait. He had time.
Kyuhyun never felt this happy. It was like Sungmin had kissed him. Silly me.
Was this broken love the reason he was happy. Or that smile Sungmin made the moment he stepped on stage with his corsage pinned close to his heart; the one that Kyuhyun was sure it was meant for him.
“Wait!” a familiar voice calls. “Let me see someone first,” Kyuhyun watches his hyung push aside all the other guys around him. He sees Sungmin walking up towards him but Kyuhyun isn’t quite sure until Sungmin actually waves and he has the same smile carved on his face. “Kyu~”
Sungmin quickly catches Kyuhyun in his arms. It was their fist hug since that fight and Kyuhyun swore that it was different from all those hugs in the past. “Thank you!” the sound is muffled in Kyuhyun’s shirt but Kyuhyun felt the joy Sungmin was radiating.
Kyuhyun could understand really. Kyuhyun knew how much Sungmin’s music meant to him. It was his dream coming true and Kyuhyun could feel that Sungmin was happy. Finally, happy.
Sungmin loosens from the hug but his eyes are looking straight into Kyuhyun’s but Kyuhyun couldn’t look away. Did Sungmin’s eyes really shine this brightly?
Kyuhyun suddenly hears a snicker from behind them. It was Kangin; a goofy smile across his face. Eunhyuk and Donghae standing behind him, Donghae smilling like he always does; but Eunhyuk’s smile was significant. Sungmin then jumps to them, giggling in happiness.
Kangin suddenly nudges Kyuhyun as Kyuhyun intently watches Sungmin hugging Eunhyuk. “So, where have you been lately? I really haven’t been seeing you anywhere.” Kyuhyun stares at Kangin simply staggered.
“Usually you’re everywhere.” Kangin says almost in a defensive way.
“Just admit it, Kangin,” Leeteuk suddenly appears out of nowhere. “You really did miss Kyuhyun”
Then everybody breaks into a laugh.
~~~~~*****~~~~~****~~~~

They find themselves walking clumsily back to their rooms, laughing slowly at each others comments. They had to wait for Sungmin to stop getting congratulations from everyone before they could actually leave so now it was already late.

“Kyuhyun are you an eldest child?” Donghae suddenly asks. Kyuhyun stares at his hyung. Should i answer that?

“Why don’t we guess?” Sungmin suggests but everybody is now staring at him. “You don’t know, Minnie?” Leeteuk questions and Sungmin just giggles.

“I told you he is a mystery.” Sungmin says looking away from Kyuhyun. You talked about me to Leeteuk?

They burst into laughter except for Kyuhyun - of course. They then start shooting their guesses at him.

You have a lot of little sisters!

No, he has a big brother and a younger one.

I think he’s the eldest.

Kyuhyun shakes his head. “I’m an only child.” He says almost too bluntly.

“Kyuhyun,” Kangin suddenly grabs Kyuhyun’s elbow and he point in front of them. A prefect was waving at him calling out “Cho Kyuhyun” repeatedly.

Kyuhyun fastens his pace to reach the boy realizing that he was a senior. There’s a call for you in the office. You better hurry.”

Kyuhyun nods and runs. His heart is pounding in his ear because this was an unusual event. Nothing like this ever happens to him.

Then he remembered that he switched off his phone in the recital that was maybe why he was getting a call. But from who?

The moment he reaches the office he sees the receiver and grabs it not ready to put it on his ear.

Finally he picks up all his guts. “Hello...”

“Hi, Kyuhyun.” His ears ring in familiarity of the voice. And it srums the strings of his heart making it hurt. It makes his heart stop completely and his face white as his teeth.

He was sure it couldn’t be true. There was no way.

“Hello.” There was no sense of urgency in the greeting from the other side of the line. But that only made this true. There was no way he was mistaken.
