Kyuhyun never questions Sungmin though his curiosity is his first weakness. Like when Sungmin decided to stay back that day saying he had business; Kyuhyun knew Sungmin was lying, but he didn’t question it.
Like when Sungmin ran to him crying, though he found out what happened, Kyuhyun never found out exactly how it happen. Did Sungmin plan to follow his crush just to see him confess to somebody else? Or did he accidentally bump into them confessing?
He never found out where it happened. Or why Sungmin came running to him.
And most of all he never found out who Sungmin liked. He never questions it even if it was gnawing on his brain. But Kyuhyun found that by not looking for it, it came to him. It didn’t come in neon letters in front of Kyuhyun. It came quite in a way Kyuhyun almost missed it.
It was that one rare day Kyuhyun decided to go to the canteen during recess because he had complained that he was hungry. Sungmin had agreed but Siwon, Kibum and Ryeowook had a last minute assignment due after recess and fled to the library (Kyuhyun had asked help from Sungmin, so his was done).
So, there he was sitting in the middle table with the people he had once hated so much. Watching as Kangin and Leeteuk pass food in their share, Sungmin silently ate his sandwich. “Kyuhyun-ah, take care of Sungminnie,” Leeteuk whispers to Kyuhyun almost suddenly. “He’s been down lately”
Kyuhyun nods sheepishly as he watch Leeteuk move to give space for Donghae and Eunhyuk. “Kyuhyun!” Donghae says gleefully. “I haven’t seen you in awhile,”
Kyuhyun once again nods as Donghae pats him harder than necessary. “Hae…” Donghae looks up to see Eunhyuk still standing. “I want to sit next to you,” Eunhyuk says whiney. And Kyuhyun sees the way Sungmin just stares at Eunhyuk; not they way he looks at other people, it was a look that made Kyuhyun pretty sure Eunhyuk slapped him just a moment ago. Agonizing…
But Kyuhyun stands up and gives his seat to Donghae - even if Sungmin is glaring at him - he catches Sungmin’s right arm tugging slightly at it.
“Let’s go, hyung” Sungmin’s eyes were screaming when Kyuhyun mumbles and excuse at the rest but Kyuhyun is the only one who can hear it - the worst thing is he doesn’t know if he’s happy about it or sad. He’s supposed to be sad.
Kyuhyun pulls Sungmin to an empty hallway by the old school blocks and pulls Sungmin into his arms. And even if Kyuhyun didn’t see Sungmin’s face he knew that he’s uniform would be wet with tears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Eunhyuk confessed to Donghae. No wonder those two are so close to each other. Kyuhyun stares at the teacher in front of the class, completely registering what was happening. Sungmin had let go of Kyuhyun the moment the bell rang, eyes still red, nose still running. He didn’t say anything; he simply squeezed Kyuhyun’s hand and turned to leave.
Usually Kyuhyun would watch the one who stole his heart so easily walk away right until he couldn’t see him anymore - he just didn’t want to miss anything - but today he left without even turning back.
He had no right to be jealous of Eunhyuk for taking Sungmin’s heart. Eunhyuk had been Sungmin’s friend for years and Kyuhyun was still trying to figure the guy out. But still he was - very much jealous - and he wouldn’t admit it but it was killing him inside.
Maybe he should just forget it and leave Sungmin alone. The guy had other friends around him. He didn’t need Kyuhyun. He was just the dongsaeng who listens and sings to his songs. Yup, he was a perfect nobody to Sungmin.
A nobody… Kyuhyun watches the people walk out of the classroom in front of him. He had no idea why he ended up here. On normal days it would be not so weird but today, it’s just not right.
“Kyu~” The voice isn’t as happy as it always is but Kyuhyun smiles. Because he couldn’t let Sungmin know that his heart was breaking. Sungmin didn’t ramble on whatever had happen in class today.
“What happen in class today, hyung?” Kyuhyun never questioned.
“Nothing,” It came out almost like a whisper.
“I bet you missed me” Sungmin finally looks at Kyuhyun with a disapproving look and a small pout.
“See. You did miss me!” Kyuhyun started jumping in enjoyment as he says it - he was actually calming his beat rate - it was nerve-wrecking to say all this things. Sungmin swats Kyuhyun’s arm, refusing to let a smile form on his face but Kyuhyun was already happy. Even if Sungmin would be only happy for this moment.
