No, the plan was (highlight for spoilers) to break Jack so that he'd experience Stockholm syndrome and want to save Henry Gale Ben's life. But it backfired. Gee, I wonder why. Maybe because they made it WAY MORE FUCKING COMPLICATED THAN IT NEEDED TO BE??! No, wait, this is Lost. Therefore, that can't be it.
UH! Pretty much anything with Kate makes me want to puke, and this background for Kate was just completely unnecessary. We already knew that she'd been in a very short marriage, that she had "lied to someone she loved," and that she had once taken a pregnancy test and was relieved to find it negative. We really didn't need to see it, and I particularly just didn't give a flying fuck. It was a waste of production, as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather have seen Sun, Jin and Sayid make it back to camp. As it was, Sayid just sorta showed up. I'd much rather see Hurley actually be affected by being taken hostage and then let go. As it is, he, too, is just sorta back. I'd much rather watch Charlie struggle to get Claire to trust him again. Because as it's been, especially towards the end of S2, their "reconciliation" just felt do damned forced. Hell, I'd rather be introduced to other "Losties." As it is, we've been "introduced" to Paolo and Nikki, but they're still pretty irrelevant, which leads me to

I agree with you on just about everything but Jack. The high drama of the cliffhanger(withRAIN!) kind of sheilded it, but I was still just as annoyed with this episode. But I still think Jack's the shit. Haha.

But it's okay, we don't have to agree on everything. But you did give me an idea for another one:
Rain = DRAMA!!! (Got it folks? This is DRAMATIC!)
