What is needed: a signature. How to get there? massive non-violent non-cooperative demonstrations

So, last night Trump gave a speech adamently refusing to sign a bill to open the gov't. He wants a huge ineffective wall across the southern borders of the US; he talks of a humanitarian crises he causes and his solution is more detention camps.  He ignored the people who are now being required to work for no money and the people who have been ( Read more... )

A right-wing coup misssylviadrake January 9 2019, 12:20:38 UTC
I think Trump is doing this to nullify the election; deprive the democratic house of any ability to address real crises:

He comes to this from his ruthless intuitive cunning and his backers and supporters. Over the December break he was in constant phone communication with supporters, donors, McConnell, the present republican establishments.

Free speech, free assembly anonymous January 9 2019, 12:40:16 UTC
Excellent Ellen. We have rights to free speech and free assembly: now is the time to use them and not lose them with massive non-violent petition to the government for redress. There is a Women's March in Washington the weekend after this.

I have followed the yellow jackets-but I see how reporting on them is suppressed in the US. It’s because they are winning and can’t be framed as terrorists. You are right on the General Strike. All history wants to do is tell us it failed but it didn’t-not in the long term and three years is not so long-and then after the war is over-Labour is voted in.

Alas many upper middle class people and others who acted as strike-breakers, plenty of people rich were murderous with spite and bile about anybody getting anything.

I wonder if the Women’s March can be a vehicle? I expect there will be massive police presence.

It''s absolutely germane that the networks refused equal time to Obama in 2014. And this morning, for once I watched CNN for a minute or so and the idiot woman was trying to get Sanders to talk about 2020. Apparently Trump did. He ridiculed her (mildly) for this approach: did she really think people this morning are thinking 2020? She doesn't want to talk about what is happening. She looked lame for a minute. He wouldn't be given air time (so to speak -- as this is the internet) on Fox.

The wealthy in 1926 were just appalled and horrified that these working people could dare to ask for a decent life.

Me: He has made it clear he will not compromise and he has the unanimity of the republicans who back McConnell behind him. They are permitting this. He is glad to be the face of the shutdown.

Lisa Guardini: He positively revels in it.

A witty remark I've heard to the on-going crisis movement into dictatorship: "A yellow jacket is in the post, with a build-your-own guillotine manual ( ... )
