Sleeping Elf Ltd doll owners?

Jan 25, 2012 21:32

Didn't think this was appropriate for any particular doll community I'm in so I'm sending this out via personal LJ instead.

Does anyone own a doll from The Sleeping Elf Ltd? I thought maybe firinel did but if there's anyone else out there, I'd love to hear from you ( Read more... )

Yep, I do (Coco in dark tan), but I will say that I bought my doll secondhand. The person was someone on the board who bought her and immediately after getting her decided that dolls of that size/shape weren't her thing. It did mean that I didn't have to communicate with Tiny Bear herself. I was glad of it, I often found her website unclear/difficult to understand.

Ah, I asked Alex, thinking maybe it was a US/UK thing, and he immediately said "$200 extra", ie: $200 onto of regular price.

I'd still probably ask for clarification. Particularly as that seems like a lot - my doll is one of the rarer colours and I believe that at the time that made her $50 more. Everything that I've heard about her though is super nice so I don't think saying "I'm not sure what you meant by "$200 x"; do you mean [price for doll] plus an extra $200 ontop of that?" would come off badly.

Oh also, I'm completely curious which one you're thinking of getting.

The website is incredibly hard to understand and you really have to dig for the information you want. And you're right, $200 extra just to get a specific skintone seems like overkill. I will keep chatting with her and see what she says. I'd like to get two dolls from her ultimately and the first wouldn't be in that color anyway, so I've got time to save up for the second one if I decide I can't live without her.

I've been in love with her larger Moona character for a long time, so that would definitely be my first one. She's also taken to putting Coco's head on Moona's body and calling the result Fallow. I love that Fallow would be able to share Moona's clothes in that situation, so that's the doll I'd like to get someday in the future in the red color.

Thank you SO much for the information, by the way. As I said, she seems very sweet but I have a hard time understanding her.

I don't have one of her dolls, but I've had a fair bit of contact with her and well as know friends who have. And the bottom line is that she is difficult. Even for something as simple as her wigs (which are amazing quality) she is notorious for being difficult to communicate with, and fairly frequently mixes up orders (my friend Stephanie ordered an orange wig and received a gray one, for example ( ... )

Well her husband passed away a few months ago and I know she fell behind on her orders taking care of him and grieving after the fact. But thank you for letting me know about her timing issues. This is all excellent information to have.

Maybe what I'll do is order one of her mohair wigs from her first. My pink haired Pullip could use a wig I haven't hacked to pieces and it would give me a better idea of how to deal with her in a business setting. I love her dolls, but not if it's going to be a months long process of figuring out when they'll get here.

Will there be photos of the wig you ordered? I'm curious what kind of customizations you asked for.

I didn't know about her husband, but that makes me even more worried. Stephanie's problems with her all happened slightly less than two years ago (April 2010), so if there's even a catalyst I'm even more worried >___>;; I guess we'll see.

Ordering a wig first isn't a bad idea, her wigs ARE really really nice!

And oh yes there will be pictures! I'm all about the pictures xD I have a Dollzone Event Deer Girl who I am turning into a sheep (because, well, hooves!). I ordered a white mohair in her size, with light green and lavender streaking, and then curls. For maximum sheepy-frilly-ness. Her name currently is Clover. This is the doll unpainted in her outfit without proper wig or eyes... as you can tell I'm going to have WAY too much fun with this project.
