Man, I'm so glad you dug The Descent. I don't appreciate a lot of horror flicks simply because I find most of them veiling their plotlessness with gratuitous gore - sure, I get the blood'n'guts crowd, but I want to be genuinely scared. You're right about capitalizing on concepts that are scary in and of themselves. The fact that there is an underground system which light doesn't touch is eerie. More frightening still is the realization that yes, many of these caves are unexplored, and it's entirely possible that there are cave-dwelling beasts waiting to eat the flesh of weary travellers.

I agree with you again that the most nervewracking aspect is the tight spaces and not knowing if there is a way out. Really accelerates one's claustrophobia. That first scene though (nightvision) is absolutely fucking terrifying. You know what's going to happen, but it still scares the crap out of you.

Dude ... I'm so tempted. I was going to say only if there are teams I like playing, but there weren't this year and I still managed to end up loving one and hating the other, therefore making the game interesting.
