I was born in Honolulu to a white mother from Indiana and a Black father from South Carolina who met it the Army. Before I was old enough to have memories of being in Hawaii, my parents moved my older sister and myself to Colorado Springs. When I was eight years old they divorced, and I’ve spent the rest of my life maneuvering between two worlds.
