I was born in Honolulu to a white mother from Indiana and a Black father from South Carolina who met it the Army. Before I was old enough to have memories of being in Hawaii, my parents moved my older sister and myself to Colorado Springs. When I was eight years old they divorced, and I’ve spent the rest of my life maneuvering between two worlds. White and black. Atheism and Christianity. White collar, blue collar. Actively progressive and no political affiliation at all.

In college I joined several organizations, either as president or media/public relations director. I was also a campus reporter and the editor of a newsletter for Black Student Services. My studies focused on media relations and communications which led me to internships with the athletic department and the NBA. I believe my paradoxal life led me to these career choices. All too often our differences keep us apart, when really they should be the glue that binds us together. With communication, there is a certain gratification in knowing your words helped people understand, or question, but best of all, it makes them think.
