My name's JenMarie and I'm going into my 5th year/BFA candidate at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where I will be attaining a BFA in Painting in May of 2009. This is a really crucial point in my life and career! I need to be thinking about the work I'm making, as I approach my BFA thesis. Also in the process, is.....dun dun dun...grad school. Low Residency? Long Distance MFA? painterswife November 6 2008, 17:14:20 UTC
Hi there! I have enjoyed reading all the entries of your blog - thanks for all the input. My husband, the painter in the family, is considering obtaining his MFA. He a 1981 graduate of CCAC and we live in North Carolina. We don't have the luxury of moving me and the children so he can attend grad school, but I understand there are some programs where you don't have to LIVE there, just pop in now and then. Have you run across any of these programs in your searching? He, of course, wants to attend a school with a stellar reputation. Is there such a thing? Googling isn't helping me right now! Thanks!

Hey :) Cool list of schools! All my apps and materials have been in since the new year. NOW is the BIG WAIT.
1. University of Texas at Austin
2. Indiana University
3. Virginia Commonwealth University
4. Boston University
5. MICA
What program did you apply for? I was going to apply to UGA, but last minute I took it off my list. I see VCU is your number 2? What did you like so much about it? I love the painting studios.....but wasn't so hip about the campus and Richmond area.

HEY HEY!!

Last packages out today! I cant believe you took UGA off your list!!! and didnt just for the hell of it try Yale or RISD or Columbia or Chicago!! well, if you choose MICA itl be rad.... for sure - did you apply to Mt Royal or Hoffberger? I applied to the Painting program for all my schools. How the heck did you get everything together and sent so fast, thats amazing? I hired a designer and Photographer so i was at their mercy a bit so I had to wait a bit longer, but totally worth it. Id love to see your new work and read your statement and vice versa if thats cool. Let me know.

hey guys i just wanted to say that I am looking heavily at CMU but not for the reasons that you all mentioned already. . .i have several friends who went through the BFA program and they are so cool, i heard all about their mfa program and even met with a faculty member there and the work their faculty are doing is just real open-ended, i mean they have a little bit of everything there. Yes, the robots, but also they have great facilities for metal fabrication (for the robots! and other cool stuff like laser cutting which you can do with printmaking, etching etc and paper sculpture), awesome printmaking facilities, video and computer labs, and you can assist faculty as a graduate assistant. I like the fact there are three years in the program, the program is really small and hard to get into so I am crossing my fingers, I was told they take 6 people every year and they have like over 200 or 300 applicants. . .check out their faculty work and past graduate students websites, it looks like their mfa grads are getting tons of shows all ( ... )
