Well Im officially 1 week away from completing ALL of my MFA applications and I am STOKED beyond, BEYOND!! I have already sent 2 apps and supporting materials out, to UGA and PRATT.
Here is my final list:
1.)Hunter College
2.)Virginia Commonwealth university
3.)RISD
4.)MassART
5.)PRATT
6.)UGA
Thats all of them, i wittled them down to 6 schools and I am very happy that I did that, because it saves a LOT of money on app fees and supporting document fees, plus I didnt apply anywhere that i didnt ABSOLUTELY think I would want to go to.
Let me know what your final list consisted of and where you are in your phase of applications. you can log onto www.artrxart.com thats my new emerging artist group that im working with - im not sure if all my work is up there yet, or any of it for that matter, but its a start, il have my work in a photobucket in about a month and then il let you know. plus, my website is being worked on so im excited for that to be completed. I hope you are well, write me back soon, and if you wish to e-mail me directly do so at vincentlardieri@hotmail.com.
TO PAINTERSWIFE -
hello and welcome! i may have some valuable info for you, however deadlines are very close and some have passed so you will have to do a little research into exactly when these Low Residency program deadlines are. BUT, I know Massart, in Boston has a low res. program in Provincetown - PLUS, one of the BEST Low Res MFA's is at the Milton Avery school of art at BARD - I believe there is also a decent program through Johnson in conjunction with the Vermont Studio. There are quite a few out there but HONESTLY, Low Residency programs are not worth SQUAT in my opinion, because you pay basically the same tuition rates as full-time, and you get 8 weeks of exposure for the year. I thank thats lame and non condusive to growth as a professional artist, ESPECIALLY in this day and age. Depending on where you live in North Carolina he would be SIGNIFICANTLY better off going to an in state program, getting a better education, and paying WAY LESS money. he is OBVIOUSLY talented and motivated, as proven by his BFA from CCA, which is a FANTASTIC school, I just visited it, so he can get in with no problems. Good programs in NC. are, UNC Greenseboro, I was actually thinking about applying there cuz i love the area and have family there, UNC Chapel Hill, and a SO-SO program is East Carolina. He should really check out UNC Greenseboro. Let me Know if you havve any more questions. Be well and best wishes in finding the perfect program for him. Log onto www.usnewsandworldreport.com and check out the MFA ratings for 2008, thats a decent start but DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY SAY. a lot of those are the "machine" making decisions based on a popularity contest of schools - visit ANY prospective program he may be interested in or thinking about, its the only way to ensure a perfect match.

2. Indiana University
3. Virginia Commonwealth University
4. Boston University
5. MICA
What program did you apply for? I was going to apply to UGA, but last minute I took it off my list. I see VCU is your number 2? What did you like so much about it? I love the painting studios.....but wasn't so hip about the campus and Richmond area.

Last packages out today! I cant believe you took UGA off your list!!! and didnt just for the hell of it try Yale or RISD or Columbia or Chicago!! well, if you choose MICA itl be rad.... for sure - did you apply to Mt Royal or Hoffberger? I applied to the Painting program for all my schools. How the heck did you get everything together and sent so fast, thats amazing? I hired a designer and Photographer so i was at their mercy a bit so I had to wait a bit longer, but totally worth it. Id love to see your new work and read your statement and vice versa if thats cool. Let me know.

we can start emailing instead of using LJ. Look forward to hearing from you. Do you have a website?
Mine's missjenmarie.com work is updated, but statement is not. I'm way more excited about the new work I'm making than what I made last semester. But alas, the artist evolves. Talk to you soon!
