*giggles about #6*

They're soooo cute. And seriously, I haven't even gotten to that kiss yet and I started reading them like two years ago.

Most perfect casting EVER. I love them lots.

Seriously? Did you not get the memo that Wimsey books > the reading required for you degree? ;) Me thinks that should be your summer plan.

(And I know this is stupid but I'm paranoid: I didn't really spoil you about the story, did I?)

Hahaha Oh, you kind person. No, when I was first getting into the books, I looked them up on Wikipedia and found out they get married. I just don't know what exactly happens in which book. I've been averaging two or three a year, and one year I didn't read any, so maybe it's been more like three years since I started them...

And hey - I do 19th c. British lit. Wimsey was in no way required. Except for the degree for being awesome.

Oh phew. I just don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I discovered the books last January (I'm a Harriet Walter fan, she played Harriet Vane and that's how I arrived at the idea of "why don't you read the books first? They must be good if Harriet likes them") and I think in the space of about three weeks I'd devoured 'Strong Poison' and 'Have His Carcase'. I then made myself wait weeks until I got the train home at the end of the semester to start reading 'Gaudy Night'.

British Lit, of any era, = win. :D I'm currently studying for a degree in English (which is essentially Eng Lit, but the uni doesn't call it that for some reason). We've got a Fourth Year module that has 'Strong Poison' as one of the set texts. I'm so tempted to do it just for that!

"Placetne magistra?" - just so much classier than "Was it good for you, too?"

ETA: Although I realize, belatedly, that of course Peter would never have to ask ;-)

This weekend I have vast quantities of ironing to do, and what will I watch whilst doing it? Last week's Midsumer Murders with Edward Petherbridge - they really should make a series out of the Wimsey short stories and set it in Peter's old age!

*grins* No, he would never have to ask. (Lucky Harriet....)

They should! That would be fabulous. His website talks of a couple of things he's writing or putting together about playing Lord Peter. I do hope they come to fruition.

PLACET!

You have no idea how happy I am that you posted these! Especially as I don't have the films yet... actually, I think I'll order them soon. Which one do you think I should start with?

Harriet and whatshisface are just perfect for these roles! And that KISS!! *flail*

PLACET! *cue major snoggage*

You should totally order them soon. You could either get them in the order of the books (i.e. Strong Poison first), or do as I did and buy Have His Carcase first. HHC is the most perfect adaptation of the series (and has so much Harriet and H/P goodness in it!), though SP is also pretty damn spot-on too. However, there is a Region 1 boxed set of all three adaptations that if you can find and afford it easily, is soooo worth getting. I bought it last year.

[Edward Petherbridge]. They really, really are. Most perfect casting EVER. That kiss almost makes up for the fact that the GN adaptation is the worst of the three, and the fact that they do not do the 'Placet' thing (!). I just wish we got more footage of that kiss, it's so yummy!

Well, I have YET to read HHC because my library is mean and Lies hasn't pitied me enough to send it to me yet ;)

I would so TOTALLY get that box-set, I saw it on Amazon, but I can't play Region 1s yet. Maybe after my birthday but I can't wait until November! I did find them at like £20 each, which is quite okay too, but that place apparently doesn't have GN *headdesk* I think I'll try to ask at my local DVD store, maybe they can get it, who knows.

Aha, I knew it was an Edward!, I just forgot his last name, oops :P

They don't do the "placet" thing?! *wibble* but but but.... BUT... *wibble*

BASTARD LIBRARY! It is such an AWESOME book. Not to take away from the awesomeness of all the other books but....Harriet! Peter! Shenanigans in a seaside town! Banter! Angst! Claret-coloured dresses! :D

Maybe you can buy them separately and then sell them on once you get the boxed set. I already had a HHC dvd, but I sent that to 12chen once I got my boxed set. I just wanted the set so much, it is so shiny and pretty and classy like them. (Although I think it does not have the cute Petherbridge interview that the single dvds have, alas) You'll be able to order GN pretty easily I reckon.

No, they don't. It is a MASSIVE shame, but I guess they needed the tv version to be understandable to everyone, and they woulda had to have subtitles for the Latin or something like that. The moment is still vaguely cute though. Harriet-as-Harriet looks so beautiful and she calls him "Dear idiot" and then I MELT. *g*

*bounces* PRETTEH!

I keep seeing you around various fandoms - or possibly just Wimsey!fandom - and I know we've had a conversation about our both being from the Wirral. That coupled with the Harriet pretteh is enough to get me to add you ;)

Yes, I remember you, fellow Wirral person! Oh, the Wimseys, such LOVE.

I'll totally friend you back! And then you'll see that pretty much all I do is fangirl Harriet Walter. But hopefully, you're fine with that. ;)

Um, hell yes ;)

Am I going bonkers, or did we once work out we went to the same school at different times?

I am rubbish and can't remember. But if you went to Wirral Grammar School for Girls, then we did. Or was it same uni? No idea.
