"The Wolves of St. August" is gorgeous. It's also great for showing the proper implementation of negative space and placed darkness as part of the visual grid.

Grenier's speech prior to becoming the wolf (and the sequence) have been stuck in my head for ages. For all that Tooth and Claw leaves much to be desired, I love how the Host is so very similar in his mannerisms.

The Host was seriously creepy - I hadn't picked up on the speech similiarities though. I'll have to go back and check. My main point of reference with regards to Grenier was actually the Sons of Fenris from the 80s tv show 'Robin of Sherwood'.
Grenier was freaky, but his threat was mitigated a bit cause you know Hellboy's going to win the fight. (How can you not have confidence in someone who says to the very large nightmarish werewolf, 'I don't care if you're a goddamm fish, you're going down.'?) The shock panel for me was the one of the little girl with the wolf's head, and the use of the wolf silhouettes in the doorways. Yeah, all around great story.

Okay. Now I gotta YouTube that. "Sons of Fenris"? Rad.

Mignola layers atmospheric creepiness like no other. "Wolves" and "Wake the Devil" are my personal favorites.

The Sons of Fenris are very rad. And they're led by Richard O'Brian, who's just plain creepy. (However, I've recently realized that Nickolas Grace, who plays the Sherrif of Nottingham, is without a doubt the raddest of them all)
Haven't read Wake the Devil yet, but it's there on the list...can't seem to get into Jenny Finn though, which is a shame - I want to like it...
