Since waking up, I'm pretty convinced that I was seeing shit in a half-asleep daze, but man...last night was the weirdest night ever. So, lately I've been having terrible insomnia anyway. If I'm not mistaken, it's either a lucid dream or something known as scissor-lock (probably referring to the frozen body thing).
I had one night where I could not sleep because WORST STOMACHACHE EVER and finally I guess I drifted into a dream, involving being hunted down by some old guys trying to kill me, it eventually lead back to my room though. So it was kinda like you how you had been laying on your bed, I was back in my same sleeping spot and was looking straight at my door. Some probe thing was floating there and had a red light blinking, apparently it was about to vaporize me? LOL. So yeah, it was as if I was awake and normal and I COULD NOT MOVE AND COULD NOT SCREAM. Like you, throat closed up and everything, I tried to scream but nothing came out.
Eventually a scream DID come out and I woke up and my dad was like LOL WTF HAPPENED.

tl;dr I had a very similar experience and I think it just happens occasionally with extreme lack of sleep/bad sleeping :'D
