The Tintin movie: some thoughts

Nov 20, 2011 21:57

I finally went to see The Adventures of Tintin. Overall, I found it delightful in many ways and I'm glad there's going to be a sequel. Still going to post some thoughts, most of which will be rife with spoilers.

First of all, a disclaimer: I haven't read Le secret de la Licorne/Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge for years, and my memories are a bit foggy ( Read more... )

I'm glad you liked it *g* I'm still waiting to be able to go, and I feel pleased that it's going to be enjoyable when I do but also don't feel like I ought to be trying to run to the cinema and get it seen, you know? I've heard a lot of good things about the title sequence, I'm looking forward to that, and Tintin and Haddock sound well-done (maybe Haddock says of course he wants another adventure because he wants to keep hanging out with Tinin? *g*). I do find the merging of the books odd in my head though (not to complain, I accept the licence to adapt, but as you know I've kind of memorised Tintin canon so to me it's kind of 'hey! you made a mistake there! oops!' *g*) And Sakharine as the main villain is a but random.

I'm so pleased that the film is bringing love and attention to Tintin and something new to the 'canon' in some form, but I reckon I'll still love the books more at the end too *g*

The title sequence was gorgeous -- pretty much worth the entrance admission on its own, imo, though I was thankful the rest of the film didn't ruin the experience. *g*

Tintin and Haddock definitely have a bromance going on in the movie. They even hug at one point! (Granted, it's a lots-of-backslapping sort of hug, but still.) I thought Tintin looked younger than in the comics -- I find the drawn version of him to be rather ageless -- but not young enough for the thought of slash to squick me out. Mind you, I was sad to see that movie!Haddock is not nearly as hot as comics!Haddock. Though I'm possibly not supposed to find any of the Tintin characters hot in the first place.

Sakharine as the main villain is a but random. He's actually a pretty fun villain, complete with evil laugh and all. *g* The main reason behind his villainy was a bit wtf, but also kind of brilliant -- and as mentioned above, it did make for a fun showdown at the end. *tries to stay away from spoilers ( ... )
