you're not stupid and childish. you're confused and intimidated. and it's understandable. life's not been really easy on you, and now you're on the other side of the country from someone you enjoy, and you don't know what to do about either of your feelings.
i say that you can't rush it, and it doesn't seem like he's trying to rush you. normally i'd say to never mind, because all any boy wants is to screw, but it doesn't sound like it in this case.
emotional closeness is something new for you, and it's going to be for a long while, at least until you can get help and get away from your family. no matter what you have to look out for your bruised heart and fragile mentality and don't let anyone guilt/confuse/force you into saying something you don't know you can feel yet.
