I think it's pathetic when I run into someone I haven't seen in a while, ask them how they are and what's going on in their lives, and all they find to say is "I'm engaged." that's completely unfair, and in fact, disconcerting. sure, they may not tell you about their lame ass career, but did you really give a fuck anyway? would you have given a fuck for any answer? no. and plus, love is more important than money. sounds like sour grapes to me.

I agree, Lacey. It's just as annoying as women's facebook pictures that HAVE to have their significant others in them. Are men socialized to want to do the same thing? Hells no. Ah, the power of gender.

Damn, I can't wait to be a gender studies professor.

I'm with Brian and his preaching. It's always kind of dull listening to people talk about their jobs and whatnot, especially if they have one like my own. Besides that, engagements/dating/relations with the opposite sex are things everyone has in common. I don't think it's a big deal. My thinking is, if they only tell you about their engagement, it means they probably don't have a job yet and just don't want to talk about it.

At any rate, it's no big deal.
