Doubting myself again

I'm not too bad at biology or at covering topics like genetic engineering. But if today's lesson was any indication, I REALLY need to write lesson scripts for myself. All the time. Despite what the literature says about "it's more important to teach kids than to teach the lesson".

Just plain old "outline" plans are a recipe for disaster whenever I

Thanks. It was kinda my fault too, I didn't read over the criticisms other teachers wrote of me in the past. From now on I'll do it before planning lessons. Heck, I'll aim to read one before every lesson.

What he said. When you're first teaching the stuff, if you're not completely comfortable, you'll want a more complete script.

As you get more confident, you can improvise a bit more.

Yes, that's what I'm going to write for every lesson I teach from now on. I'm not totally incapable of learning from my mistakes. :D

I know some spontaneity may be sacrificed but it's probably better than having no confidence. Besides...you need a level of competency sense before you can go spontaneous.

"it's more important to teach kids than to teach the lesson".

As if these were two different things. Yes, it's important to teach the kids, but the idea is to teach them some subject. Too much modern education theory forgets this.

I see their point, and can see yours too...I guess you can focus on "teaching the kids" once you know you're confident. :)
