Rehabbers have to deal with what my MIL used to call a gracious sufficiency of paperwork. In addition to filling out forms for every animal that comes into our hands, we're required to submit comprehensive reports every one-two years. I hear you. And in the bigger picture, we are just as ephemeral as they are. Those cute little- What are those tiny sweet things anyway?

So true! And since spouse and I have no children, and we both wish to be cremated, we'll literally just be dust in the wind. I'm hoping we'll at least make good fertilizer :)

They're baby groundhogs, about five weeks old. A farmer shot the mother, then found the littles. Oops. There were six of them. Bless his heart, he drove them over 100 miles to get them to us. All of them survived and were released :)

The more I delve into this whole ancestor thing, the more appreciation I have for those simple folks who left everything to come to a new country where they weren't particularly welcome and were then treated badly. Talk about a crash-course in history. My head has been reeling!

Yes, we do rehab hummingbirds, but not in the numbers that article stated, thank goodness! They're so tiny and so fragile and so incredibly sweet-natured. Every one we've worked with was a joy.
