If I had a hammer...

I've read a fair number of posts lately cranking on the poor newbie writer. Those posts made me cringe and threw me back to a time when I was a newbie of a different kind:

About 15 years ago, at a friend's house late one evening, I was handed a wild baby bunny. The friend knew I felt strongly about helping wildlife and thought I might know what to ( Read more... )

wildlife, making mistakes, writing

When I was in the middle of writing my first draft of my very first book, I remember asking my sister if she could get in touch with her famous writer friend and ask if she could hook me up with her agent. Oh, my gosh! I'm so glad my sister kept forgetting to do what I'd asked. I would have looked like such a rude dumbhead! But I simply didn't know how it was done.

I totally agree with you. If someone oversteps their boundaries with me, I hope I'll be as patient as you and your heroes.

See, we can giggle about that now, but at the time it seemed totally reasonable, right? Plus, we spend our lives being told to just ask if we have a question, and that there are no dumb questions, so it seems a little silly to smack people when they do just ask.

And I already know you're a kind and patient person, because you talk to me :) You're definitely one of my heroes.

Awesome post! I love when you write about your rehabbing life because it's so interesting to me. I'm sure I would be one of the people who would ask to observe too because I love to see a master work their craft. :)

Writing is definitely about paying it forward - something I hope to be able to do someday....

Thank you :) I often worry that the rehab stuff doesn't have much appeal, so you've made me feel better. And if you were close by, you would definitely be welcome anytime :)

Terri, what a great parallel! I wouldn't have known most of those rules either. Just goes to show we all have things to learn when first starting out, and if we have to make fools of ourselves to learn it, so be it! We come out better people for it in the end. :-)

Hey, are you no longer on FB? I can't find you anymore? I just hopped over here to the blog to check on you because I was worried.

Miss you out there...

Anita

I've made a fool of myself so many times, it's become an art form with me. lol.

Thank you for missing me! Spouse and I had to go to a wedding and have been away, but we're back again and so happy to be here! There's truly no place like home!

Believe me, you're not alone in your foolishness. I've done some REALLY silly things on my publishing journey.

Well, I'm glad you're back, and hope you had fun. :-)
