a number of men in my parents' generation told Dan he was a fool for including in his vows a promise to get me water in the middle of the night.

Grin. I've always found the really specific individual vows like this sweet when I hear them, but for various reasons it wasn't what we decided on either time.

I've been thinking I should pitch a writing your own vows story for next year though--I think it would have a lot of great stories like this.
