We are having almost exactly the same problem: a kid with mood disorder/anxiety, who keeps using physical symptoms (some of which are aggravated by the mood disorder/anxiety) as a reason to constantly wheedle us that she can't go to school because she feels OMG TERRIBLE.

Yes, she has missed too much school, and we don't know what to do. At this point, I'm just trying to be grateful that she's not back in the hospital or running truant. We had her stay with a trusted family friend for a couple weeks, and that helped for awhile, but that can't be a permanent solution.

No easy answers here. If you get any, send 'em my way.

I didn't know you were going through that. I finally did the, "well if you're sick you're in bed. No tv, no computer, nothing." It worked. For now. Following that the pDoc upped his anxiety meds and his counselor re-visited with him coping skills to de-escalate when he is amp'd up on the anxiety. I'm thankful, for him, it's mid-winter break.
