Poor Bean, we've had to do so many med adjustments in the last little while that I can't keep track. Right now I'm at *The Soul-Sucking Day Job* that I only keep for insurance...well and a supposed retirement, so I can't do my regular record-keeping here of what he's taking. I have to remember to do that when I get home...

What I can remember:  ( Read more... )

my son is not ok, forget all about that macho shit and pla, bipolar disorder, adhd, pdoc, alternative school, meds

I would say that Bean's number one challenge as driver will be concentration. I would suggest teaching him how easy it is to lose that concentration - that not only the radio or other people will cause a loss of concentration, but just "letting your mind wander" can cause a dangerous lack of concentration.

The other thing would be driving the speed limit. It's not as fun as speeding around, but it's safe and very stress-free. I know that "stress free" is important to Bean.

It sounds like the cocktail needs to be further refined or overhauled entirely if he's still that distracted and that anxious. Has an actual ADHD medication been tried (I'm thinking Focalin or Concerta) with him?

Seroquel XR typically won't work for sleep issues for very long, in personal experience with my daughter, but does tend to work well with the actual mood disorder issues. Paired with Trazadone it's worked well for my daughter.

Can drivers training be delayed? Not to be harsh in any way, but he doesn't sound like he's ready for the training or to be behind the wheel of a car.

Yay, as of Monday, he's off the Seroquel and taking Trazadone for sleep, something he had in the past, but a couple of pdocs ago took him off of Trazadone.

He's been on Concerta before. He was literally amping between doctor jeckyl and mr. hyde hourly on that stuff. He's afraid to try it again.

I don't think I could keep him away from driver's training. So, it will, as with everything require much supervision.
