Beautiful, as always. I had to read it twice before I could even respond, and now I'm still left without anything coherent.

First things first: What an icon! I love it!

Thank you so much for letting me know you read my story twice; that's the best of compliments, I think.

Thank you! That's a lot better than the usual, "Huh? I don't get it" (I will force poetry on all of LJ, or die trying).

I've read some of your stories over and over. They're very easy to get lost in, and each time I read them, I find something new.

Oh my gosh, what a compliment. Thank you! I'll treasure this comment.

This one is going to haunt me for a while. All full of melancholy might-have-beens.

Thank you. I need to write more happy, though, don't I.

The rhythm and language feel so comfortable here, making the seemingly unfulfilled possibilities uncomfortable, in juxtaposition... like a tiny ache you try to swallow back down.

Imbued with the "never and always" of Eliot's poem, this is utterly exquisite.

Ah, thank you so much! And this:

like a tiny ache you try to swallow back down

is such a beautiful phrase. Thank you for that, too.

This hurts, it does. The more so for *almost* being the sweet first-time story I can see not happening between the lines.

I'm sorry it hurt, but yeah, exactly what you say. Thank you very much.

Good angst does that to me. :)

Oh so beautifully written. It was painful to read because it reminds me of someone I know who constantly did this, and is now so full of regret.

You have such insight.

is now so full of regret

That's the part that interests me the most. Although I want to write happy-happy all the time, when I watch the two men interact, this is more what I see: almost there, but never quite.

Thank you.
