I'm very sorry to hear your mother is having such a terrible time. It must be so awful to be far away from her at times like these. I hope the medication helps and you can visit as planned.
And I completely agree with you about instant coffee. When I visit family in Ireland, my older relatives offer instant (so I take tea!), but the ones who are my age or younger give you the real stuff :)
Sorry to hear about your mother being in hospital again. it is so heartbreaking when the hospital stays become ever more frequent. :(
I have no problem with instant coffee. I drink my coffee with quite a bit of milk, so heating some milk and stirring in coffee in that is easier than brewing coffee. For the same reason I don't need gourmet coffee, and decent instant coffee actually doesn't taste horrible, IMO. Certainly better than from cheap generic coffee (which I often find unpleasantly acidic). Also if I want it cold in hot weather I can make a concentrate with just a little hot water to dissolve and then add cold milk, and I barely have to chill it at all afterwards. Brewing and then cooling it would take much longer.
I wonder if the instant coffee sold in Europe is just better than the instant coffee I've tasted in the States? Although enough milk does make almost anything better, I agree.
Yes, it is heartbreaking, and the frequency seems to be increasing. Thank you.
There are definitely quality differences between instant coffees. Like I pay attention to get a kind made from arabica beans only, not arabica/robusta mix.
Ah. I just emailed you privately to send you something I thought you might like, and realized I hadn't seen your post this week. And no news wasn't good news at all. I'm so sorry. There's not much to say except what all your friends are saying, I suppose -- that we're thinking of you.

Re my mother: thank you. It is hard to be away. It's so hard to know what to do, too.
