There's been some recent talk amongst my BSG flisters about Farscape, and whether or not it's worth taking the john and aeryn good with the puppets! in space! bad

Awesome! I think you'll find Aeryn Sun is worth the silliness. I'm going to love hearing your thoughts on her.
You know, I disagree w/ so much about the Twilight books on the feminist front but you know what always pulls me back? Jacob Black. And since all my friends either despise Twilight or want to have Edward's scary babies, that leaves me to good ol' LJ to express my cheesey self. Love them together, can't help it. Yes, Jacob/Bella FTW! :)
I don't know why but I can't get all het up about the feminism in Twilight. I certainly see all the problems but I just...kinda roll my eyes at the whole damn thing! Hee. (Except the bashing of fans/author because I think that's sorta distasteful.) But I would so pick Jacob; she crazy! I guess I just love the BFF love connection trope...and in general he just seems like a normal guy (despite the fur). I like that.
I don't think I'm overly OMG. YOU ARE RUINING THE FEMALE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD about it but I definitely have issues with the way the Edward/Bella relationship is portrayed. I honestly don't care if all Bella wants to do is love her man and cook, it's the dependancy and mentally unstable infatuation she has for Edward-being portrayed as the ULTIMATE LOVE- that concerns me. I think the series could have benefitted from some more independence and personal growth from the heroine or at the very least, I wish folks would have a clearer understanding that the E/B dynamic is not very healthy. But honestly, my understanding of these issues could fill a tiny post it note, so what would I know? It just bothers me when I see women falling so hard for a character that I find intrinsically WRONG on so many levels-though admittedly, that is a personal opinion
( ... )
You do! They run a little expensive...I netflix-ed them for a long time before I finally purchased my own copies. I think John and Aeryn are worth it though.
I've only watched season 1, and this post (and Tara's) made me think that I really need to marathon the whole series (even though I've spoiled myself and I know most of the story!).
And yes, I love Aeryn too! (but no surprise given my love for complex kick-ass heroines ;)). Besides, another reason I want to watch this show is that Aeryn and John have a beautiful and satisfying ending, so no fear to have your heart broken.
Oh, I totally spoiled myself before watching the series as well. Still good! Especially later Season 2 and Season 3-their love is truly epic during that episode arc.
Aeryn is fantastic, I fell for her from moment one, just like Kara. And so true about their ending, it does my heart good, I swear. Sometimes I get tired of shipping all the wrong couples, sometimes it's nice to get that happily ever after!
Hugs!
You know, I mentioned to Tara up top-I feel so silly with my Jacob Black love in light of Twilight's many flaws but I can't help it. And since my real life friends either mock Twilight mercilessly (and trust me, I understand why!) or are absolutely obsessed with Edward Twilight, that leaves me with LJ as my only place to love the J/B dynamic. It's pretty much the only outlet where I can be a fan of CERTAIN aspects but not all, if that makes sense.

I hear you. It is so exhausting. It makes me wonder what's wrong with me LOL!
Oh... And I love Jacob! He is my favorite character of the series, and I enjoyed his relationship with Bella! (I never bought the Bella/Edward dynamic, too flat for my taste, to tell you the truth). I must admit though that I am on the Twilight detractors front. I mean, I know it is a silly story and all but... those old-fashioned gender stereotypes, I am really touchy when it comes to this sort of topics! (and hey, "Breaking Dawn" was soooo disturbing, I couldn't bring myself to finish it!)
I agree w/ everything you're saying here and kind of touched on it w/ Tara up top. Trust me, I understand where you are coming from completely w/ the E/B dynamic-it has a very negative feel for me. Breaking Dawn is FAIL x 1,000,000. I returned that thing to Barnes and Noble and received a refund. I wouldn't have that trash on my keeper shelf for any amount in the world.

And yet, if this is wrong-who wants to be right?!
