I adored John's bluff and bluster here and that his boys aren't shaking in their boots over his gruffness. Their mischief making is soooo little boys and completely and utterly adorable. There are those in this fandom who would love to tar and feather John but your John is very much my John (and very much canon, FWIW) and, at times like these, I really think the man deserves some love ;). Thanks for sharing this!

Yeah, I never quite got the full out John hate I have heard others apparently have. I mean I get he's not a perfect man in any sense of the term and a fairly lame parent. But the Winchesters are so defined by his lost sense of well...everything and his borderline lunacy. On top of that I just thought the actor might have acidentally brought in a huge heaping pile of fatherly warmth that maybe the writers didn't intend for John to have? XD

He might have been a bad parent but as far as I could see, there was no love lost for his kids... I also don't buy Dean's devotion if the guy was an utter monster. Neglectful, distant and ineffectual sure... an evil child beating douchebag? Not so much...

(besides, how could you not LOVE the amount of crazy involved to be hoarding away LANDMINES??! ♥)

And thanks! ♥

Oh, yeah, the man might well have been the poster-child for paranoid. But, then again, he didn't home-school them in a shack in the hills, so he deserves bonus points for that ;).

Between what JDM brought to the table and Jensen gave in return, yeah, I'm thinking they decided to show a love that went awfully deep. I've often stated that I don't believe Dean's devotion was misplaced. Despite being awfully messed up, I still respect Dean too much to believe his love for John was solely due to his dependency/abandonment issues.

Thanks for your thoughts and once again, thanks for sharing your story.

so, so cute. i love that john knows his spawn are up to no good just from hearing the noise, and i love the fact that they're apparently not afraid of a damn thing - even electrocution by fence - because that just seems so small boy to me.

Wonderful. I can just hear Sam saying Danger Powerlines all excited because he's having fun and following Dean. I really like how you make John able to keep his kids in (some sembelence) of line without coming off as a nasty guy. His affection for his kids comes through even when he's yelling. Sam and Dean both coming to watch/help at the end was great.

Thank you! I really try to keep John on that line of 'parent' and 'some guy trying to get by so he can kill the next evil thing on the list'

Did that make sense? ha! I suppose I don't see John as particulary nuturing, but very protective and obviously very loving. The hug he gave his kids in what was it....Shadow! was quite the family group hug time.

I'm not sure why the writers whipped him back and forth between "OMG YER MY CHILDREN I MUST PROTECT YOU' and"What? Dean's dyin'? Hm, well, let me know how that works out."

(I have a feeling the writers weren't sure what they were doing... or JDM wasn't acting douche baggy enough on camera? ha)

Bweeeee! More Mink!fic! More John-spawn! More cute!

Yeah. *beams* This is fun. Especially since I'm having one of Those Moods today, so fun and cute are definitely a good thing. :-)
Cheers ~

P.P.S.

I actually think the modern Lincolns are sorta sad. They just don't have the presence those old gas-guzzling land yachts used to have. (We once had a '77 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.) They don't look like much of anything any more ....

They ARE sad! I must say, the 1970s were the golden age for land boats. And you had a Coupe!! Dare I ask the paint color? Taupe? Sable? TEAL?!

Heh. It was baby blue with the white hardtop over the rear part of the roof. EVERYthing electric, right down to adjusting the seats just so. And when you mashed your foot on the gas, that four-barrel carburator opened up and roared. ;-)

*wanders off humming in a falsetto: "After the love has gone ... how could you lead me on..."*
