On the verge of barking that she's Emily's mother not his, he stops cold at the quirk of an eyebrow that, either genetic or learned, her daughter does equally as well. Instead, he swallows at the thickness in his throat and mumbles, "Yes, ma'am."
I loved this image! Very believable!
All damp skin and big eyes, she's laughing, a low, sexy sound, and she flicks water at him. He drinks her in, afraid to touch. She's too beautiful to touch.
Oh, Dave. This just about broke my heart.
He swallows, hoping to push the lump in his throat away, but there's no room for it, his chest is too full of his heart, so the word comes out raspy and shaky when he replies, "Hey ( ... )

I knew I was tipping my hand with the title of the story, but was hoping it wouldn't be obvious who the unsub was.

Ming, you did it again, you had me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath. I confess, I totally skimmed the first time because I had to know if they were going to find her there and if she was going to be okay.
Dave's heartache at the 24 hour mark from waking up alone was so visceral. Maybe the worst part of this is all of their personal knowledge, and his horrible fear that at some point one of them would break, one of them would say, "We have to give our attention to something else." Because they never would...but then they would have to...and they would never stop looking...but not looking 24-7 is so unacceptable. You capture that sick-making terror so well.
That horrible awful Mrs. Benton. I honestly am glad Matthew's father felt so guilty over it. (Especially because I've been reading The Rite by Matthew Baglio about real-life exorcists, and I know now just how far ( ... )

I knew I was tipping my hand with the title of the story, but I kept thinking about how Andrea Benton would see the story as a mother, how each story has a different perspective.

I really enjoyed the beginning with the short scenes. And I could really feel Dave's desperation as time went on with no clues.
Thank you so much! We were worried it was going to come across as rushed.
I could see Elizabeth detesting Rossi, but if they met in a crisis situation I bet they would find their love for Emily common ground.
