Oh, Thursday, how I love you. Especially this Thursday, since I'm not working tomorrow, which makes today Friday! Hooray!

Anyway.

We all mourned, fought, fundraised against the cancellation, we all wept last night, and we did it because we loved the show. So why not use the Top 5 list to express that love? Today's list, I give you Top 5 ( Read more... )

Not in order and not easy for me to do - these aren't my favorite moments, or my favorite things, or anything other than snapshots that pop into my head when I first thought of the series. I can't even do your top five properly without breaking but this is the first five things that I thought of. Well six because I thought of them at the same time, thankskindly. And they are all from Angel because right now I'm mourning that too hard to think of Buffy, even though there ARE so many moments in Buffy...God. Don't make me cry at work, Min! *HUGS YOU ( ... )

No crying! Celebrating and dancing a la Wes and Angel in "She"! *tosses celebratory confetti*

This is a wake, not a funeral. And wakes demand that you get drunk and weepy, but happy memory weepy. And mostly drunk. Remember that.

1. Connor dropping from the portal.
I think I "rewound" the DVD and watched that single moment probably a dozen times before I finished watching the episode. God. How gorgeous and feral and perfect he was. boniblithe was talking about how very much he looks both like Julie and David this morning, and it's true - he could very much be their son, and that's lovely.

*holds you tight*

Doesn't he? He was the perfect casting choice, both physically and also - he is SUCH a good actor, he really is ( ... )

It's okay. All day is fine. I keep remember other things that I love, like how Angelus goes and puts on pants before he collapes in the rain at the beginning of "Surprise" - you've just got your evil back and you stop to put on PANTS?!? - and the kiss at the end of Becoming Part 2 and.

Oh. S2 of Buffy is wonderful. Innocence was my favorite episode for many many months, before I finally saw "Are You Now".

And the quintessential Spike moment - the "You're not friends" speech in Lover's Walk. Ouch. So gorgeous.

Don't think about this. Just go with the first five things that pop into your mind, be they characters or lines of dialogue or writers or episodes. From the gut.
I'm really gonna try to follow your advice on this, otherwise I'll be sitting here all day...

1. Walk Through the Fire This was my getting-through-my-last-year-of-college song.

2. The metaphors... how everything is an exaggerated, supernatural interpretation of rites of passage that we all go through.

3. Willow. How do I love Willow... let me count the ways... Willow and Tara, Willow being a huge spaz, Vampire Willow, Willow telling Oz that she's not much fun to be around five days out of the month either, Willow doing spells that go wrong, Willow having stage-fright nightmares, the Willow and Fred connection...

4.Anya's "explain to me why" speech in The Body. Kept reciting this, over and over, when my friend Medora died in January ( ... )

One of my favorite things about last night was the bit with Anne and Gunn, because they wrapped it up. Another example of how lovely continuity could be in the Jossverse; the first time we met Anne in S2, I fell out of my chair with glee.

And yeah, "Smile Time". What an episode, and man, how they pulled it off.

and the fact that gunn has no idea that anne is buffy's middle name, that's where she got it. i love that.

Exactly. Has Gunn actually ever met Buffy? I don't think he has, but I can't remember.

I loved seeing him go back to the shelter last night. That squeezed my heart almost more than the ending did. Gunn, at his core, is a jeans-and-hoodie wearing vampire slayer from the 'hood, and he went back to that. Gah.

1. "Once More, With Feeling" - The music, the dancing, the in jokes.
2. Vamp Willow in "Dopplegangland" and "The Wish" - If I ever, even for a second, look 1 percent as hot as Alyson Hannigan in that corset, I'll be a happy woman. Plus, "Bored now."
3. The Hyperion - Everything about it. What a gorgeous set. What a gorgeous history.
4. Angel and Wesley dancing - I don't care what you say, Wes doing that dorky little dance in "She" makes me smile on the worst of days.
5. Lilah - Everything about her. I want to look like her, talk like her, dress like her. Not to mention all of the dirty things I want to do with her. I don't necessarily want to be evil, but if I have to be, I will be. Special achievement: Lilah wearing the Fred glasses for Wes.

One of my very favorite things about last night was that Angel had them meet in the alley behind the Hyperion. I mean, it was all the tiny moments of continuity, really, but that one was particularly lovely. They had so much good time there; as everything else collapsed in on them, they could go back to that. God. Gorgeous.

Not to mention all of the dirty things I want to do with her.
There is a very good reason I keep writing femmeslash starring Lilah. You just nailed it. :)

That made me happy, too. I wish that it would have been 2 hours so they could have met in the ruins of the Hyperion. I miss it.

I want someone to write a Womens Studies thesis on Lilah as a positive woman role model.

I didn't want to see the battle. In my head, the Buffy crew comes sweeping in on the back of the crowd of monsters and they meet in the middle when everything's dead and Spike and Angel get in a fist fight over who gets to kiss Buffy first and they end up kissing each other in the rain in the alley behind the hotel. Um. Sorry. Little carried away.

But I would have loved to have seen the Hyperion used one more time. That's absolutely true.

I want someone to write a Womens Studies thesis on Lilah as a positive woman role model.
Obviously, you've just figured out what you want to go back to grad school for. :)

1. All the language I picked up from both shows (and Firefly, gorram it). Joss is a permanent part of me linguistically, and I love it.

2. Once More With Feeling and Smile Time- two of my favorite hours of television ever. Honorable mentions for Hush and The Zeppo.

3. The Mayor's sweet/sad/crazy farwell video. "Hi, kids!"

4. "Not the hair, never the hair..." "That nancy-boy hairgel that I like SOMUCH." Excellent idea to watch it in Spanish and French. If only I had a DVD player atm.

5. "I'll take away your bucket." Wesley in a general sense; I tuned in for Alexis Denisof when the rest of the show had lost me entirely (though I didn't stick it out all the way through season 5, he kept me around for about two seasons, and I figure that's no small feat).

That's what came to mind, anyway. It's the end of an era, for sure. I'm certain we'll see more from Joss though, and soon. **hugs**

Wesley in a general sense
He did go all crazy and kitten-haired again late this season; that was excellent.

Did you end up watching last night? Because if you didn't, do you know what Joss did to Wes? Someone who loves Wes as much as me - as you obviously do - deserves to.

cincodemaygirl May 20 2004, 08:08:03 UTC
Yeah, I watched it. I was pretty "eh" on most of the episode, but sad for Wes. I know nothing of Illyria- I stopped watching before Fred died- but I enjoyed his death scene and the kinda-closure between him and "Fred."

Ah, the Rogue Demon Hunter. He was my favorite character on Angel overall, I believe.

If you'd seen last week's lead in, it made a lot more sense and was a lot more powerful than just on its own, I think. On its own it was sort of disjointed and odd.

His death scene was nothing less than what Wesley deserved. God. Gorgeous.
