I like the story about dinner in Homer. Have we talked about that? I didn't know it left such a deep impression on you.

I had dinner there, too. I went to Anchorage for my childhood/early adult friend had his second wedding, he and his new wife flew us down to Homer through a wicked rainstorm. Great restaurant. I have the faintest impression of the town.

Not sure if we've ever talked about Homer or not. I have very deep fond memories of the place. I'd like to go back soon, but am torn at the same time, as I'd hate to have my version of Homer I keep so close tainted. Those were times of great discovery and revelation for me.

While I've had some special times with Alaska (16 years there makes it hard not to have some good memories)...I've never had the adventures that come with working the fishing boats or canneries down in Homer and the like. I'm lacking in a connection to the place anymore - I've spent my adult life avoiding going back, so it's always fascinating when I meet someone who wants to be there badly.

I had worked the season (Kenai and Dillingham), made some money.. did a 2 week hike in the wilds of Denali and then ended my adventure in Homer before heading home. I was in my early 20's and full of adventure. Great memories were made. Every now and again I recollect how I felt then and decide those days drove me to be who I am today.

What did you think of Chuck's latest? I have it on the shelf and might pick it up next (almost done with Capote's In Cold Blood).

It was pretty much exactly where I grew up and is filled with exactly the same characters I remember. His book is an easy and fast read, but you can tell it is his first novel. Moments of the books are superb.. yet the story over all for me falls apart a bit at the end. I lukewarmly recommend it and look forward to future books he writes.

Apparently Downtown Owl has been optioned already.. which makes me happy for him and honestly a bit jealous.. but then again, he did the work so more power to him!

Ah, that's right - I forgot that you know mr chuck, correct?

Well good, I need a light & quick read. I was going to go with Augusteen B's latest but it got such bad reviews from Entertainment Weekly that I'm going to let it sit on the shelf a while longer...

PS - How cute are you in that icon?

I know Chuck from a past life.. I wouldn't say he's a friend. :) Let me know what you think of DTO.

I'll let you know! Always up for meeting new friends. It'll more than likely be sometime in July I'm guessing.
