Well, there are a lot of No on 8 ads out there, many of which appeal to the heartstrings - "let them get/stay married" tact. That is probably more effective to the conservative undecideds that I think you're talking about.
I think these "I'm No on 8" ads are designed to motivate people who are already going to vote no to make sure that they pass the word on to their friends and family.
