While I have no immediate plans to visit NY I'm still looking forward to read more about your trip. So thanks for that! I thought about going there myself now and then and the question where to stay always was a difficult one. I had a look at the map where your hotel is located. That's about as central as it gets! I guess that wasn't cheap.
I wouldn't mind paying a bit more (to a degree) if it's conveniently located to reduce the time commuting to places I'd like to see. The traffic noises could've been a problem since I would need the rest. Though I'd probably be so tired that I would sleep anyway. :)

NYC would easily be filthy rich from that intersection alone
And probably balance the national budget. :D

And to finish on a random note, there's also a version of that "Cash Cab" show on German TV. :)

The hotel was fairly inexpensive through a air+hotel deal on Expedia. I just looked at the regular prices and it's about $300 a night. I wouldn't pay that. There is also a Holiday Inn at the other end of the block (Lafayette and Howard) - a quieter intersection and still close to everything.

It is so easy to stay up really late because there are so many people still wandering around in the middle of the night. I would lose track of time and think it must be around 10 p.m. and when I looked at my watch it was 1 a.m.!! So, yeah, by the time you get back to your room, you just crash.

Glad you like the post! I've always enjoyed your travel posts as well!

Now that I'm back a friend of mine just posted a "Yelp" about a place he stayed in near Times Square. (Link --> http://www.yelp.com/biz/hotel-qt---closed-new-york#hrid:7j3ZT33GP2LoqMSCNL9xvg ) His review is from danny e.

Although it is closed as the QT it looks very much like the same hotel "Room Mate - Grace" (Website --> http://www.room-matehotels.com/eng/nuevayorkhotel/gracehotel/gracehotel.php )

It's closer to $400/night but looks like a heck of a lot of fun!

Thanks for the additional info. I had a look at the site of the Room Mate hotel, and yes, it says somewhere that it is the former QT hotel.

As I said, I have no concrete plans at all to visit the States at the moment, but that won't keep me from picking up some info about NY. :)
