Grandmother's time

I went downstairs today, because it felt different. Usually on Saturdays my parents leave to visit my grandmother. I usually take my brother and drive to meet them to have dinner together. I didn't even go downstairs for anything except that it felt different ( Read more... )

I wasn't very close to my grandmother, there was always a kind of barrier between us because I was second child and female. I think I explained once in an entry but it's something I could write about again.

*HUUUUGS*!!

My grandma never did that. She was strict with us and we were never taken out or spoiled.. I had the impression based on my own experience that Chinese grandmas don't seem to do the "take the kids out and spoil them" thing as much. Didn't really think about it specifically until some time later, but, yeah, it's all I know.

Well, but every time she sees me, she seems to be in some kind of disbelief. And she always thinks of my dad and feels a lot of pity for my sister and I, and I feel really bad about that, even when I assure her we're all right

But yeah.. we all get old..

I guess Chinese grandmothers are just like that, but the way my father's side of the family, as you know, since you've seen the way Tina is... they fight a lot so she just had that sort of negative mindset and would always blame everything that went wrong on my mother even though it was obvious what happened.

Yeah... I see what you mean.
My grandma was brought up in Fuzhou in the countryside, so, I think that sort of has something to do with it.

): @ negative mindsets..

I think my grandma spoiled me once by buying an SNES controller for me.

At least you still have a grandma!

it's hard... to see someone you love start to fade away, to do things that are showing signs of age. my grandma is only 60, and she spoiled me rotten as a kid. but, those were during "good times", where as now my grandparents are suffering due to money problems, stress from family matters, etc... now she repeats stories over and over. talking to her isnt hard because of that, but rather because of im afraid of her judgment. so, i avoid her. i may regret it when she is older, she smokes so she will probably get cancer, but for me... the concept of something finite, and terminal, i rather just not think about it.....

there isnt anything im trying to get at here, but you love your grandmother and you love your mother, your family... so you will take good care of them, as they grow old, and there will always be people who love you by your side, too.
