Doc wouldn't serve her alcohol, but he will share the book.

"Evening, miss," he says when he notices his customer.

"It's all right," he says. "And please, call me Josiah. Or Doc."

He pushes the book closer so that she can study it in greater detail, if she likes.

Doc glances up from the illustration plate of the hand, meeting Katya's gaze.

"No, he was the surgeon that put t'gether the text, s'all."

He pushes the book towards her, and steps back to fetch a glass and a bottle of top-shelf vodka. He uncorks it, and then pours a healthy measure into the glass.

He returns and hands it over, setting it beside the book.

"He didn't do the illustrations, but he was very good at explaining the way it all works."

He's seen more of her bones and her insides than he'd ever cared to have seen, so he doesn't have to imagine what they look like.

(The memories force him to pour a refill of bourbon into his glass.)

"It's a useful guide, if you're needin' a map of sorts to put somethin' back to rights."
