Doc glances up from the illustration plate of the hand, meeting Katya's gaze.
"No, he was the surgeon that put t'gether the text, s'all."
He pushes the book towards her, and steps back to fetch a glass and a bottle of top-shelf vodka. He uncorks it, and then pours a healthy measure into the glass.
He returns and hands it over, setting it beside the book.
"He didn't do the illustrations, but he was very good at explaining the way it all works."
