On his way downstairs, Doc has one goal in mind: get out the back door and out of the bar, and eventually make his way out to the stables

Ako is more taken with the book than the specials.

It comes from being too young to drink and interested in nursing.

Doc wouldn't serve her alcohol, but he will share the book.

"Evening, miss," he says when he notices his customer.

[seat_five_girl]

"Hello Bartender-san," says Ako, "Sorry for leaning over like that."

[docscurlock]

"It's all right," he says. "And please, call me Josiah. Or Doc."

He pushes the book closer so that she can study it in greater detail, if she likes.

Ako will do both!

"Thank-you Josiah-sensei," says Ako with a small head duck of a bow, "Are you a medical doctor?"

"I am," he says. "I studied medicine for a few years and have done some practicin' on my own. I'm not as technical as some of those on staff here, but my knowledge is suited to my time in my world."

(He's actually ahead, compared to his world, with what he's learned here.)

If there is any field where you should be cheating, medicine is near the top of the list.

"I'm still taking junior high school classes. Oh, um, my name is Izumi Ako. Please, call me Ako."

"Are you looking to study medicine yourself, Miss Ako?"

The title is out of habit.

[seat_five_girl]

"Maybe? I have, um, trouble with blood."

[docscurlock]

Understanding, he nods. "It can take some getting used to. I had trouble with some of the demonstrations in school, myself."

The idea of cutting a man apart to rummage around his insides looking for a part to fix still makes him a bit ill. He'd prefer a man's insides stay on his inside.

From Ako's expression she hadn't thought that far into medical school.

"Not even that, just bleeding makes me uncomfortable."

She bandages things to make problems go away on some level.

"Well...that might make it difficult, but if you stick with it, I'm certain you'll be able to find ways to manage your distaste of blood."

They'll start with blood. Baby steps, after all.

Baby steps, yes.

"I hope so, it's not good to have people hurt and not be able to do anything about it"

He nods.

"That was one of the reasons I went into medicine. I'd rather help folks than sit by and wait for a doctor to be fetched."

[seat_five_girl]

"My classmates are pretty bad about waiting," she says, "I'm the assistant nurse and I have to keep them in place some times."

Mostly through bribes when it comes up. Ako is not one of the stronger fighters in class, but she does have candy.

Doc isn't above practicing the fine art of bribery. He'd be impressed, if he knew.

"Being an assistant nurse'll be a good way to get experience in the field."

He remembers he's bar tending, and mentally kicks himself.

"I'm sorry, I forgot to ask...would you like anything to drink, Miss Ako?"
