Though it hurt, William went out to check the stables and has come back inside as it's raining. He's limping since his knee is still hurting and grins when he spots Mary reading her present and tending,

"Miss Benett?"

"Mr. Evans."

Mary looks up from the book he had given her for Christmas. And looks a little discomfited. It's always difficult to navigate the maze of etiquette in Milliways, but it takes no thought at all to know that thanks need to be conveyed.

"Thank you. For this," she says, holding the book up, slightly. "It was my intent to convey my gratitude in writing, but..."

Bar had distracted her.

"You haven't injured yourself?" she adds quickly, to cover her awkward attempt at thanks.

"You're welcome. It's one I liked. I slipped on some ice but it ain't too bad. I just hurt my knee a while ago and the slip made it worse,"

Once he's settled on the stool, he allows himself a small wince, "Could I get some tea?"

"You should rest it," Mary says, sternly. "It won't heal properly, otherwise."

"Though," she adds, checking herself, "I imagine resting is hard to do when working a farm. Ranch."

Farm for cows.

"Of course."

Mary marks her place and gets up to set out the makings of tea that she had located earlier. Including the electric kettle that she had cautiously sussed out the workings of.

"Have you ever seen the like of this?" she says, nodding at it. "You put in water, depress a lever and it boils. Without a real fire."
