Bar has two items for Mary Bennet this evening - a book compliments of Mr. William Evans, and a note. Mary takes up the book first, both touched by the gift, and weirded out at receiving one from an unrelated male of limited acquaintance.

Then she reads the note, which, as odd as it sounds, seems to be from the Bar. Though Mary automatically looks over her shoulder, half convinced that Mrs. Reynolds is watching this unfold. She’s not sure if this is an elaborate joke or some sort of test, but after a bit of hesitation, Mary steps behind the bar.

After a bit of poking, she finds an apron which she ties over her dress and (as per the note’s instructions) has written a specials board in neat copperplate.

Now, not quite knowing what else to do for the moment, Mary is perched on a stool behind the bar with her nose buried in The Odyssey.
